Wow. That's a shitton of kids.
• I cannot believe you have a kindergartener. I refuse to believe you're old enough for that.

Also? K's mom is the youngest of 9 and his dad is the youngest of 10. K has 3rd cousins that are older than he is.

I know, right? Dad . . . get a hobby, man! A different hobby!

Ah, well: Catholic families.

Ben in school is going to be so much fun. Be prepared for him to be absolutely exhausted for the first few weeks - like, fall asleep at the supper table exhausted.
• Yay Ben! I hope he has an awesome first day.

And betrothed, I'm disgusted with most of the comments that you have posted. I don't think I've ever read such judgmental comments in my life. I'm so lucky that the girls I speak to on theknot are nothing like you...I would've never come on here for ADVICE if I would've encountered a big a bitch as you. I genuinely feel awful for your children or your future children, and I think it would be irresponsible of YOU not to invest in their future therapy sessions starting now. Because trust me when I tell you honey, they're gonna need it. ~jcaruncho2010

• Ben for class president!! I cried when both of my kids started kindergarten. With my youngest one, I cried harder. Ben, the little man.

Mine are in Grade 9 and Grade 6 now. When summer ends I'm like "buh byeee" for about 2 days, and then I get sad and miss them.

My grandma has 13 brothers and sisters (only 2 boys in that whole lot). When my great-grandparents passed away a few months ago, you should have seen the obituaries. Just a huge list of kid, grandkid, and great-grandkid names. They had like 56 grandkids and 24 greatgrandchildren.
• Aww Cew, don't worry if it makes you feel better my little sister started kindergarten yesterday and I think my mom stayed the entire day (8-1230) with her and she said she had to go to the bathroom because she was going to cry.

Im glad your little one started off the day good. I hope he makes tons of new friends!

• Yay for Ben! I'm glad to hear he was excited about school and didn't give you a problem. I was the same way and my mom says that she got in the car and followed the bus to my school (a 5 minute ride), watched me walk into the building and sat and cried for about ten minutes before she went home. :)
I hope he's as excited about his second day of kindergarten :)

Ha! I love that.

During kindergarten orientation this morning, they told us that they would be exhausted the first week. That makes me happy. I think he and I both were ready for him to have a new challenge.

My mother's mother (my grandmother) had 9 kids. 8 boys and 1 girl. After mom got married she was told to "uphold the Catholic tradition" and have at least 5". I'm an only child lol.

Mom cried for kindergarden, 1st grade, middle school, high school, and 2 years of college. Oddly enough she did not cry at the wedding though.

I need to buy the Cew Book of Parenting - How to get an outgoing child. I'm worried by future kids will be anti-social like me.
• Aw Cew you're such an awesome mom with an awesome kid!!

I made my kindergarten teacher cry. I was a pretty outgoing easy kid but one day she reprimanded me for talking to my neighbor. She told me to stop chatting. Apparently she offended me and I refused to speak for the rest of the day and would just stare at her. It was only her second year so she was freaked out that she damaged me.

She cried when my parents picked me up and they both laughed.....they weren't surprised.

Awww. Thanks! I honestly don't know how it happened. I was a super shy kid, so it wasn't in my genes. I really always pushed him to be super independent and to make eye contact and shake hands when he meets people. But I think he's just a natural ham. He loves the attention he gets from being so outgoing.

We've recently really started focusing on the stranger issue. He will talk to anyone and will just go up to strangers and introduce himself. I'm comfortable with that when I am with him, but now that he's getting older, I really started focusing on not doing that when he is alone. Our neighbor gave him a book about strangers and we read it and then did some pretending. I feel so much better now.
• Aw, what a big day in Ben's life! I can only imagine how emotional it is as a mom to send your kid off to school. Good for you for holding it together! :) You're such an awesome mom. If I ever have kids, I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to have you and Bec on speed-dial for like, everything.

I bet it will be fun to see him this evening and get to hear all about his day. :)

I love this story.

I remember being in kindergarten with this little girl who would not talk. To anyone. Ever. It was very strange, but I remember making it my mission to be friends with her because I felt so sad that she had no one to play with. We would play and play but we never said a word to each other. She ended up being one of my best friends that year, but I switched schools in the 1st grade, so I never saw her again.
• I live in a world where no one ages, just fyi.
But I will make an exception for Ben. As long as it stops with kindergarten. No more growing up after that. Congrats Ben and Cew!

Cew, that's adorable. Isn't it funny how friendship is negotiated as kids? Kind of like "going out" with someone in 6th grade means you just say you're going out but may never speak, hug, or hold hands. It's just something everyone knows for a week.

When I was little I went to school on Army bases, so the kids were pretty used to moving or having their friends move. I remember once I had a BFF, but she was also friends with another girl. Then we found out I was moving to Germany, so the other girl let me have our friend for recess for the following few weeks until I moved. It was actually pretty logical for us being 7, but funny to think about now.

• I love hearing kids talk to each other. I love the little conversations they have.
• Awww on Be. That is very sweet Cew :)
• Ben is such an awesome kid...but then again, he has an awesome mama. Bet you're gonna have more play dates and little girls coming to your house than you know what to do with.

Can't wait to hear all about his first day!

• Aaaaannnnndddddd. I believe that Ben will be a bus rider. I sat in the car rider line from 2:30 - 3:50. It was kind of a nightmare.

But he had a great time in school. The first thing he said to me when he got in the car was "it was the best day of my whole life!". He said he made a lot of new friends, but couldn't remember any of their names. I'm so proud of my big guy. And now we're bathed and finished with homework. I'm thinking he'll poop out in about an hour.
