Wedding Season

Hi all,

I just started planning my wedding and am still super flexible on dates.  I have been described as the girl with champagne taste and a beer budget.  In order to get what I'd like to have without completely draining my house fund, I wanted to know what if any "off-season" the Dallas area has.  And also if there is a particular time of year where orchids and calla lillies aren't as expensive.  Thanks!

I know in talking to vendors when I was planning that January through March are the slowest months.  But I'm not sure Dallas has an "off season" per se.  Weddings are a big business here.

    I agree with Stephie.

You can save a lot of money year round if you are open to Friday evening or Saturday afternoon weddings, though.   Those are off-peak times for venues and vendors.

I would say beginning of the year is the slowest time. This time, most brides are just beginning or still planning their wedding. But you would have to call around for places. Most venues would prob have  the same prices year round, just different prices on different days. (IE Sunday would be cheaper than Saturday...during the week would be cheaper than on weekends..). I would assume all the photographer's prices are going to still be the same no matter what time of the year it is. As for Calla Lillys...I'm not sure. I would think winter you may find them a little cheaper but I could be wrong.

My flowers are callas and orchids.  I'm getting married in Oct.  My bouquet will be 6 large white callas and 4 white dendrobium orchids and it is $90.  My 2 MOH's will carry 2 large callas and 2 white dendrobium orchids and the other 5 bridesmaids and the jr bridesmaid are all carrying 2 large callas.  Dads, FI, and BM all have orchid bouts and the other 6 GM, 4 ushers, and officiant are having calla bouts.  This is costing me right around $650.  It was the cheapest I found by about $400.  I went with Bice Flowers in Hurst.  I'm also getting 12 single stems of the white dendrobium orchids to add to my centerpieces.  Every other florist I went to told me the orchids would cost a lot but Bice has them on my invoice at $4 per stem!  GL and HTH!!

October may be off season for your flower choice per Dana above, but it's also the second busiest month in Dallas for weddings.

When planning my wedding for this August, I had many vendors give discounts because they were trying fill up their spots.  I never had one vendor tell me they were booked, and most were willing to give discounts because of that.  You may want to look at August (just make sure it is indoors!), many people stay away from that month in Dallas b/c it is back to school, and so dang hot.

Thanks everyone for your input.  I wound up not being able to move to a Friday or Sunday wedding because the church we met at only does Saturday weddings and the vast majority of our guests are from out of town/state.  I picked August indoors because we didn't want to have to wait a 1.5years to get married in the winter and hopefully we can make good on some of the discounts from vendors.  And about the tip on Bice Flowers, I will definitely be looking into them.  Thanks for the tips!
