Designer Dress Question

Hey Ladies - does anyone know if designers typically increase their dress prices for whatever reason? 

I was at a boutique and within 3 weeks they increased the price of the dress by $500 sayiing that the designer raised the price due to the increase in price materials.   I don't buy enough "designer" items to know if this is true.  My feeling is I got ripped off, but I figured I would ask the experts.

    If the prices of material go up for the designer then the price of the dress must go up to help offset the material cost.

    As for different stores selling the same dress for different prices...all dress stores will need to markup the cost of the dress (mark ups can vary depending on the store) some because the store also needs to make money as well as the designer of the dress.  Because of this, some brides do shop around for the same dress at different stores to see where they can get the best price.

    In the end it sucks that things are marked up so much but people (meaning the designer, the bridal store and the consultant who sold you the dress) need to make money.
