So I went in for my first fitting today at the bridal shop where I bought my dress. To have my dress hemmed, the bodice brought in a bit and straight-stitched (to lie a little flatter), the side brought in a bit, and a French bustle put in is FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS. That's more than half of what the damn dress itself cost. The hem alone was two hundred bucks!! And there is NO beading or lace or design or anything on the skirt of the dress. It's just plain silk. She said it's because there are four layers to hem (an underskirt, a built-in little crinoline-type thing, another underskirt and the overskirt). But don't most dresses have more than one layer to hem?? Freaking ridiculous. I think I got hosed.
And I wanted to go to a local seamstress, who probably would have been half that if not less, but my mom flipped out with the "but if she ruins it, what will you dooooooooo??? You don't knoooooooow her, and she works out of her home. What if it burns down??? At least this way the bridal shop ruins it they'll be able to order you another one." She was paying, so whatever, but still I think she just wasted about $250 dollars for no reason.

If I wanted to hear the pitter-patter of little feet, I'd put shoes on the cat.
