Groom & Groomsmen (& Ushers)

I'm trying to figure out what to have my men wear. My bridesmaids are wearing short black dresses and carrying bright flowers. I want them in black tuxes, but I'm debating about what to have them wear under it. The original idea was to have all the men in white shirts, my FI in a white vest/tie and the GM and Ushers in black vest/ties. The thing is, I'd like FI to be in a black shirt and I don't think I want my GM in ALL black. Would it look weird to have FI in a black shirt with white vest/tie and everyone else in white shirts with black vest/ties? Any other suggestions? Thanks!!!

    I don't think tuxedos look nice with black shirts.  If you want to do suits instead of tuxedos, then that could work.   Also remember that tuxedos are evening-wear, and should only be worn after 6pm.  If you're having an afternoon wedding, then I would recommend suits instead.

    Do you have an accent color along with the black & white that appears to be your main colors? Our colors were black, white/cream and silver accents. The guys had silk silver ties & pocket squares, no vests, my hubby had a silver herringbone vest with the silver tie & pocketsquare.

    I agree with Avion22, I'm not a big fan of black shirts with black suits or tuxes, but that may be a personal preference.

    What about having the groomsmen wearing the vest colors in one of your accent colors that the BMs will be carrying in their bouquets? that way their vests will "pop"?

    My BMs at this time are going to wear black dresses with a sash in my main color and that color is going to be the vest color of the groomsmen. The tuxes of the Groomsmen are black with white shirts so that way the pop of color will look good and bounce off the bridesmaids. Then the bouquets will have all my colors in it and it will all blend together..

    OP: what is the time/venue for your wedding ceremony and reception? That will help us make a better recommendation with regard to color combinations and ensemble pieces.

    I can, however, make some recommendations as to pieces.

    Pick a level of formality and apply it uniformly across your gentlemen. This is a rough idea of the levels of formality I see here (less formal to more formal):

    Shirt < shirt+tie < shirt+tie+vest < shirt+tie+jacket < shirt+tie+vest+jacket

    Again, I don't know about your time/venue, but I will say that generally at a more formal event (doesn't sound like you're at the beach), you'll want jackets for the gentlemen. Anything less and they'll look juvenile or worse: like the serving staff.
