Re: NWR: She works hard for the money!

  • DNB, we have a couple full-time employees here who work from home and have dogs (big ones).  It's always fun when they start barking in the middle of conference calls.

  • I'm an office assistant for my local county government in the public relations and media services department. I work in the media services side and basically answer the phone and copy DVDs of our programs. We have 6 producer/directors who work on short 30 minute shows every 10 weeks on a rotating schedule. Most of the work they put out is pretty interesting. We also have a TV studio that we use to tape a magazine type show and record spots for different people around the county.

I like what I do, but it's pretty boring overall. I love my coworkers though, but it's 8 guys, an older woman who acts like a man and me. And that is why I am here all the time.

  • I'm usually a lurker, but this thread is so interesting, that I though I would share too.

I work as an English teacher in a private school in Mexico.  I teach a special class to 1st- 3rd graders.  I studied Hispanic Studies, so what I know about teaching I have learning on the job.  I love giving my classes (most days!) because when I'm with the kids I can forget about everything else and I don't watch the clock (which I did a lot in other jobs!).  I really have fun with the kids!  My focus is getting them excited about literature and learning English.

I get along with most of my coworkers and my immediate boss.  The other bosses aren't my favorite ones to be around, but I just go into "ignore mode" when we have meetings where everyone just argues about how we should do things.  I also love all of the paid vacation time that we get!  I give private classes after school to individuals and businesses, which I also like.  I don't want to be at this school forever, because I don't see too much of a possibility of moving up (I DO NOT want my bosses job!!!), and I want to work only part time when I have kids of my own.  For now the pay is really good compared to the cost of living here, so I am able to actually save money while working here :)

I loved reading everyone's posts, because I am always looking for something else that would be interesting to do.

We can be shameless together. Do you have a book I can read? I want to read it even if it's not finished and tell you how awesome you are. See, I'm already learning to be an agent!

Matilda, I can PM you even if they aren't working, maybe they will work later? I can never get mine to work from home. TK hates my house.

  • I'm a SAHM and go to school a couple days a week for photography :)
  • I'm a banker.  I went to school for writing.  It doesn't make sense to me either...  After the wedding the "What kyurcek wants to do w/her life" project will be in full swing.

  • I was a nanny for a special needs child up until last fall when we moved over an hour away.  Since then I decided to go back to school for a different degree, in Business Admin., while all fall/winter I pieced our house together (renovated enough to live but had lots of loose ends to finish up IE put countertops in, paint, refinish floors, decorate, and so on...).  Now that the weather's nice and the inside's finished, I'm in charge of the exterior while I'm looking for an internship/secretarial position in Wilmington to begin networking.  Ultimately in a few years I'll be a SAHM unless something major changes.

  • Currently I work in a library, but as of tomorrow at 6pm I'm unemployed.  I've applied for a position as a phlebotomist, but I'm waiting to hear back.

  • I'm an HR Manager at a large technology company.

Some days I love it and feel like I am making a difference.  Other days I just want to tell people if you don't like your manager, either learn to manage up (using the suggestions i'm providing) or stop whining and switch teams.

I am an Accounting Assistant at a small office in Atlanta, I like it okay, although the pay could be better,  and I love my boss but it's not my dream job, which is writing. I love love love to write! I hope to publish a book someday, if I can get up the nerve.

  • i'm nationally certified pharmacy technician.  it's not exactly my dream job but i have insurance and vacation time, and it keeps me on my feet all day so i stay kind of active haha the pay is okay but not so much that we'll miss it when we have kids.  we've already decided that i can probably stay home with them since my job would really jusst be paying enough for daycare and i'd rather not deal with people trying to forge percocet scripts all day anyway

  • I'm so freakin' in demand here at my job, I just spent 30 minutes shredding 1 prof's documents. Down time is nice; weeks of it isn't.
    *sigh.*
I'm ready to work on course stuff.

I love you Missy. Even though you are not smart enough to take online quizzes to find out really important information. ~cew
  • I work at a jewellery store part time, which is pretty sweet. I get to help men choose out engagement rings, which is really nice, and they often bring their new FI back to the store to meet me. I like the personal aspects of my job, but I don't like the targets!

I'm also studying full time, in my final year of a teaching degree.
