New Year's Eve

What are you doing this year?

I have to work all day (lame) but happily, FI talked his way out of some lame plans we'd gotten roped into.  Now we're having a late dinner at the Melting Pot and then going home to drink wine and watch movies.  Aside from the working part, I'm pretty excited.  Big NYE parties always seem to fall short for me and Melting Pot is delicious.

  • I think we're having game night with my family.  we're going to get my folks and my aunt and uncle to try and play Beatles RB.

  • I have to work too. Ew.
We are going to our friends' annual NYE party! It's the same party where I grabbed FI and kissed him at midnight 2 years ago, hence sealing the deal on our relationship.

    (NYE is our anniversary.)

  • We're going to one of my SIL's house to hang, relax and play some Wii w/the family. Pretty low key this year.
  • B and I both have to work until about 4:30, but we're just staying home and I'm making several apps and we're gonna drink wine and beer and watch movies/ play Wii/ listen to the neighborhood fireworks. I'm sure someone will be outside setting them off. I've never NOT had a low-key NYE, so there's no reason to change that now.
  • mmm. melting pot. why must you always do this to me?
  • I'll be working on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day :(

H also works both days, but he doesn't have to be in until Friday afternoon, so we might have some sort of small celebration.  Right now we're playing it by ear.  I have about 10 bottles of champagne/sparkling wine in our pantry, so we might open one or two of those.

And betrothed, I'm disgusted with most of the comments that you have posted. I don't think I've ever read such judgmental comments in my life. I'm so lucky that the girls I speak to on theknot are nothing like you...I would've never come on here for ADVICE if I would've encountered a big a bitch as you. I genuinely feel awful for your children or your future children, and I think it would be irresponsible of YOU not to invest in their future therapy sessions starting now. Because trust me when I tell you honey, they're gonna need it. ~jcaruncho2010

  • We're going to Ruth Chris for dinner with another couple and then hopefully getting home before midnight when all the crazies hit the road.
  • Haha Sarah!  Sorry!

I will be sure to give you the details when we get back.

  • I'm going to the Chik-Fil-A Bowl with my MOH. Our alma maters are playing each other, so we couldn't pass it up!
  • I'm throwing a party. My brother's birthday is the day before New Year's Eve and so we're throwing a combined NEY party and bday party for my brother. But he doesn't know! Surprise party! I've never been to or thrown a surprise party and I'm really excited about it.

  • FI's son is coming in on the 30th, but my son doesn't come back until the 2nd.  It will be a low-key night of Disney movies, puzzles and good food (hopefully).  Low key, but fun.
  • We're staying at BIL/SIL's house on the way to other SIL/BIL's house the next day.  I'll probably end up watching the guys hog/attempt to play the Guitar Hero, but a few drinks should make that more tolerable.  :-)
  • DH is hosting the kid's version of the big NYE party downtown, which ends at 7 with a ball drop for them. After that we are headed to the big wilderness lodge/water park for a party and overnight stay with Chloe. I'm hoping Manda will come, but that's doubtful. We may stay two nights there and play in the water park until Saturday and come home late that night. If not, DH will come to my house and stay until the football game on Sunday, when he has to work again.

Like most everything in my life, NYE will involve packing and traveling. I cannot WAIT for June.
  • Salt, that's awesome!

We're not sure at the moment.  Sounds like a friend is going to come stay with us for a few days.  I have the night off because I talked a coworker into working it for me.  We may go up to some other friends' house and go barhopping with them at tiny country bars.  Always a good time because we know almost everyone there.  Or maybe we'll stay around our neck of the woods and park at a bar for the night.  Either way, I think we're going out.
  • I will be getting my lymph node in my neck removed!! Wooohooo---I'll be all loopy without a hangover the next day. Score!

  • This will be the fourth or fifth year in a row we've had a NYE party. It's not huge --about 30 people or so at its largest with some people coming and going in the course of the night. But it's definitely become a tradition: People have been telling us for months that they're coming -- even before we said we were actually having the party. Laughing
  • Old boyfriend called on Christmas Eve and said he misses me. Wants to get together on NYE.  I said I would let him know tonight.

long story behind the relationship with his mother issues.  I may just go and have a good time because I'm moving late winter, early spring, may as well have some fun
  • We're planning to go to Mitchell's for dinner, and then just home, I think.  I don't like huge, stupid, drunk crowds, so going out for NYE never makes me happy.

  • We are going to the annual dinner at a local German restaurant with my parents & family friends. Then one of our theatre friends who lives in my neighborhood is having a party so we are going to that.  We like the idea of not worrying about driving.  Probably a 10 minute walk each way but even if it's cold, I will be happy not to have to drive.  I don't know how late we will stay, but we'll get out for a while.

  • Ooh, Pirata, I love German food.  My family goes out for it every year the night before Thanksgiving, but I wasn't there this year.  I could go for some schnitzel!

  • I have to work that day even though I'm not working any other day this week.  That night, we're just going to stay in, cook some dinner and probably continue on wiht the Lost marathon and some wine.  I've never been a big NYE party person.
  • We are just hanging out with my dad this NYE. We'll play with our cats and order pizza/Chinese. We like to do things low-key and that's about as low-key as it gets!

  • Buying some bad ass steaks, jumbo prawns, and making this lemon and dill dip they go divinely with. Then we are getting trashed and watching movies or tv or whatever. Thats mainly what we do every year - have an indulgent dinner and get boozed up.
  • We don't have any plans. My friend ususally has a NYE party, so I have gone to that every year for the past 4 years. This year she isn't having one, so I'm at a loss. I'm trying to convince R that we should go OOT to a beach or something, but he isn't keen. If all else fails I will go to the bar I used to work at, work a little, drink a little. I loved working there and the regs always buy me drinks, so at least it will be a cheap night.
  • I'm working until 5pm on NYE.  DH is working until jmidnight or so.Cry

I find out tomorrow what time I work on Friday.  Most likely it will be 8am.  So I think I will just lay low by myself.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • We were invited to a friends wedding on NYE but already committed to visiting friends a few hours away so I'm pretty excited (I'd much rather visit the friends).  Turns out my brother and his new gf will be in that city too so should be a good time.
  • H and I may end up having a 'date night' of sorts, too. We've got a few party offers, but we're just so exhausted from christmas, a birthday party we returned from yesterday, and have another upcoming party on the weekend, so figured that NYE would be better spent doing something a little quieter.
