July flowers

Hi ladies,

I started looking at flowers. I would love to use seasonal flowers for tall centerpieces. What would be your favorite flowers that are in season in July? Thanks so much for your help.

Re: July flowers

  • your options should be fairly open since it is still considered summer.  What color are you going for?  I love Eremurus, but i's a tall bushy yellow flower.  But there are tons of great flowers to work with that have natural height and are in season ;)
  • In my garden my Stargazer lillies bloom in July, as do the black eyed Susans.

However, "seasonal" flowers have been thrown off kilter by the warm winters and springs we've had. This year was worse, warm winter with little snow, followed by 80 & 90 degree temps in March, then a freeze that came and reduced the floral growth and volume for flowers that bloom now.

Most florists or bulk flower sites online have some flowers that are seasonless, like roses, carnations, lillies, baby's breath, sunflowers, calla lillies.

Flowers that bloom on a bush (lilacs, peonies) and Lilly of the Valley are probably the only flowers that are truly hard to get during certain times of the year because they have a "Mother Nature clock" that limits them and can't be forced in greenhouses.

If your wedding is next July, I'd go on floral websites (costco.com, fiftyflowers.com) and see what comes up now, comes up in July, then still comes up in other months. Those will be the easiest flowers to get any time. Most floral sites don't sell seasonal flowers because they can't predict the weather.
