  My BMs wore long eggplant dresses and I asked them to buy a specific shoe.  I tried to pick a fairly low heel, a silver strappy sandal that was reasonably priced... they were $22 at Target.  I also got them silver flip flops for the reception, in case they wanted to switch.
  
  Looking back, if I had to do it again, I'd ask them to select any silver sandal of their own choice, any heel height and/or style, so that they could wear them again.  I was stuck on the idea that I wanted them to all be the same, but I realize now it truly didn't matter.  Just my opinion.  Good luck!

  I gave the girls the option. All wear the same from payless that they liked but didn't love or buy whatever one they wanted from a connection I had with a discount dyed the right color. They all opted for that and got 2012 release shoes before 2012 collection even came into the stores. It was a little more then the payless (By about $20) but they all love their shoes so much they wore them to the bridal shower and talk about them non stop.
  
  It really depends on how much you care if the shoes look the same or not via style. Color matching is more important with short dresses.

  If you require a certain shoe, you pay, otherwise give them a colour.
  
  I told my girls black shoes, since most of them (or all of them) already owned them.  They wore dark purple dresses, but because the boys wore black tuxes, it worked.

  I say just tell them the color and let them pick their own shoes. That way they can find something in their own style in their own budget. I told my girls silver. I just said please no glitter heels and called it a day. They all found super cute shoes and love them and are happy that I was their excuse for buying a new pair of shoes and their men cant yell at them LOL

  This is interesting to me. "Tradition" is that BMs purchase their own dresses, which are specified by the bride right?  But if the bride wants to also specify the shoe (or per other discussions, professional hair, makeup, anything other than dress etc) it's on the bride to purchase rather than the BM?
  
  I've been in a few weddings - one we each paid a dress rental fee like $25, and we purchased matching shoes; one the bride paid for the dress and we each purchased matching shoes; one I think we each bought our own dresses and were just asked to wear black shoes.
  
  For my wedding, I bought my BMs dresses, and haven't chosen a particular shoe but will likely let them decide on shoes - so far it sounds like they'll probably end up buying  matching ones.

  Thanks for the help ladies! I'm debating between specifying nude or silver or black and letting them get whatever, especially because the girls range in height from 5'0" and 5'11"...
