Driving on the wedding night

My FI and I can only take three full days (It will end up being four nights, thankfully) for the honeymoon since we are leadership staff at a camp whose training, that we should be helping to lead, starts the day after the wedding. We are blessed with a good boss who is giving us a few days, but we can't take more than the three days.
Also, due to the time constraints, we booked a little cabin between the wedding site (my house) and camp so we could just be on our way there and have the most time possible to be alone.

I'm really excited for this. My only concern is that we will have an hour and a half drive the night of the wedding to get to the place. Since we are waiting until the wedding night, I'm sure there will be a lot of tension and eagerness to get there. Do you think it is a crazy idea to put my FI through an hour and a half of driving on that night, or is it worth it to be able to actually settle into someplace nice for the entire time?

I hope that makes sense and isn't too long and annoying. Did anyone else out there wait for their wedding night? Do you think you could have waited an extra 1.5 hours driving that night?

I agree that an hour and a half isn't THAT bad. It's certainly not ideal, but it can work. You could always get a hotel closer to your wedding venue that night if you really want to be alone quicker- if it is in your budget.

I don't think an hour and a half is a crazy drive.  What time are you thinking the reception will be over?  If it's toooo late, you might want to think about staying in town that night, just because you'll both be exhausted.  FI and I are staying in town because we have to fly out at 7:30 the next morning, but we both know we may both be too tired to do *anything* that night, and we're both okay with that.  We've waitied 23 years...and we have the rest of the honeymoon (and our lives) to make up for it.

If you decide to make the drive after the reception, maybe get an audiobook like Love & Respect or something else relationship related to listen to on your way...or a book you both like that has nothing to do with weddings or relationships.  Use the drive to talk about the day, what you did with the girls that morning, what he was thinking about with the guys, and get your disappointments about the day out of your system on the drive, so you don't dwell on them longer than you need to.

    Also, welcome to the board!!

Also, staying 4 nights gave us a $20 per night discount which almost gave us a free night compared to having the higher price three nights and a hotel room on top of that. It is going to save us money, I think, to spend all four nights in one place. I like the idea of the audio book though. We love the book Love and Respect! I think so many Christian women are unfairly afraid of the concept of submitting to/respecting their husbands, but it is such a wonderful thing to do.
    Thanks for the advice ladies.

We are waiting and its not TOO long! Of course my FI thinks the 15 minute drive from our site to the hotel room is too long. lol.

We decided to stay at a hotel closerrr because we know that we will want to "celebrate being married" lol.

My cousin and her now husband drove about 1 1/2 hours to their hotel after the wedding, and they waited too.  They left when the reception was over at 10:30.  Whether they did anything or not that night, I don't know, but knowing them, they probably did, lol.  I think it's ok if the reception is not over too late.  And Emily is right, you dont' have to do anything that night, and you mentally might not be ready for it either.  It's such an emotional day, that just cuddling and talking about the days events might be best, especially after a long drive.  You will have the rest of your honeymoon and lives!!  And welcome to the board too!

I'm not the best person to ask about this because every other week I drive two and a half hours home for doctors appointments and whatever wedding stuff I need to do and then turn around and drive two and a half hours back to school. It's all in one day. So my idea of what's "okay" or "reasonable" is a little skewed.

That being said, an hour and a half is nothing. :) If you're worried about being tired, have caffeine on hand. If you're worried about restlessness on the way there, keep it in perspective. You've waited how long? Another 90 minutes isn't going to kill you.

Good luck. Oh, and welcome to the board!

I have some friends who had a relatively early reception that was over by about 5pm, so they were lucky, but his parents actually paid to put them up in a VERY nice suite at a hotel that was almost 2 hours away.  From what I hear, it was actually a lovely drive for them to just be able to hang out and discuss what had happened over the last few days.  One of my friends had a hotel that was very close to their site one time and said she never really had a chance to unwind before getting to the hotel, and went from one set of nerves to another in a split second lol.

Maybe this time together will be a blessing in disguise :).

Our reception was over at about 8:30 or 9:00 and we had about an hour and 15 minute drive to our hotel.  At first I wanted to get a limo because I thought we'd be so tired and just want a professional to drive us there.  But we didn't want to pay extra for a limo so we just drove it.  It turned out not to be bad at all.  We weren't as tired as I thought (we were all wound up from the excitement of the day) and when we finally got to our room, we fired up the jacuzzi before even thinking about anything else.  It was so relaxing to just sit in there and enjoy each other's company.

I think you'll be fine to do the drive that night.

This is almost the same thing for FI and I.Our reception should be over at 5pm at the latest so we are picking up Chick Fil A  and eating dinner on the way to the honeymooon spot. We are fortunate that we picked a HM destination that's about an hour and a half away from the venue. I'm excited for the drive with being able to unwind and  talk out everything out.  Enjoy the drive and knowing this is the beginnning of a nice relaxing few days with  your new husband :)

We didn't have a drive,  but we left our reception around 9 and didn't get home until midnight.  We went to our friends' house and hung out, played games, and generally had fun with them, then went home and...well, I'll stop there :-P  So no, I don't think 90 minutes is too long between reception and hotel, the only question for would be if you want to do all that driving.
