We did one. We had 7 types of candy, and purchased about 1/4 lb. per guest. This amount worked out just about perfectly. There was plenty to keep the jars full all night, but we didn't have much leftover. It was a huge hit with our guests, so I would definitely recommend doing one if you're still on the fence.
I purchased fairly pricey apothecary jars for our containers, because I knew I wanted very specific ones to use as decor in our home after the wedding. You can find much cheaper jars at places like Hobby Lobby, Michael's, or the Flower Factory (or online from places like Save on Crafts.) I've also seen some adorable candy bars that used mason jars as containers, if you're having a more rustic wedding.

**i'm a little drunk on you and high on summertime**
we are doing a mini one, only three since we have very few guests, but we are covering the main halloween food groups, (halloween wedding) candy corns, m@m's and girradelli squares.
I did an all white candy buffet in shades of cream and white. My colors were black, champagne and ivory and I had a fairly formal wedding so I wanted mine to match our elegant theme. I purchased all my jars from TJ Maxx and bought most of my candy online. I recommend 1/4 lb. per person--I did 1/2 lb. and it was too much. I used Chinese takeout boxes for the take home containers and decorated them myself. All this and my flavors are in my planning bio.
I did one as well,i did not go with a theme but i picked a variety of 14 different candies,i purchased all the jars from, michaels,ac moore and Walmart.I ordered Chrome candy scoops(you can get cheaper ones in plastic) and i ordered the bags off orientialtrading.com.here is how it turned out
www.Orientaltranding.com has a bunch of candy, containers, and scoops. I'm a bride on a budget, so I'm going to be getting most of my jars at goodwill and walmart, and will be shopping after Halloween, valentines day and Easter clearances for candy. My wedding is in May also, and most of the candy that is out now for Halloween will still be good by then (just check the expiration dates).
Thanks for all the helpful information! I love all of your pictures...they turned out beautifully! I am glad to hear that the candy buffets were a hit. I will definitely be keeping all of your advice in mind!
@twilight.rose You're pictures are beautiful! And I love your hair in your pictures. It's gorgeous.
@dizzinea Are you having a Halloween wedding! That would be so fun.
@stephiehall I like the idea of the white candy bar. It is eye-catching. White is one of my colors and I was leaning toward the idea of a color coordinated candy bar.
@jenni83 omg I love love love those bags that you used! Where did you get them from?
@srobson2011 That is such a good idea about shopping for the candy after the holidays....I didn't even think about that.
I am obsessed with my candy buffet. This might sound weird, but I honestly got a lot of my jars/containers at random garage sales! I wanted them to look a little different, rather than having all the same shape and size... Plus, I'm a bride on a budget, so garage sale-ing saved me a ton of money. I am doing a really large buffet with all different kinds of candy. My colors are dark brown and champagne and I thought just all brown or chocolate candy was boring (plus I don't like chocolate), so I will have a major pop of color with the candy buffet. I am also going to get some big apothecary jars to add, but most of my jars are a hodge-podge from garage sales. Once they are filled with candy I think they will look really cool.
I saw some cute candy jars on Martha Stewart one time where she had them personalized for the wedding and let the guests fill them up at the candy buffet and take them home. SO CUTE!
