[QUOTE]All pet owners think their pet is very well behaved and well liked.  But there are some PITA pets out there.  They belong to somebody. It's like everyone thinks they are a good driver.

And we all know that I'M the only good driver!  LOL<div>
</div><div>It's true, though I know my dog can be a PITA.  She's generally wonderful, and she's small and manageable, but I know she jumps, and I know if she's not getting enough attention she barks her head off.  I love her to pieces, but I wouldn't have her at my wedding.</div><div>
</div><div>Plus, I have a friend, f'rinstance, who's VERY afraid of dogs.  All dogs, any dogs.  Even my Meg.  I don't pretend to understand it, but hell, I'm going to respect it.</div>
  • My aunt has a chiuahua (sp?) that is just awful.  He's mean to other dogs, he pees on the floor, etc.  But he doesn't bark, and he's super sweet to her and most people, so she thinks he's just wonderful.  I think we see our pets with rose colored glasses.

I think pets are great, but I think people overestimate how well behaved their pet will be when they're suddenly the center of attention in an unfamiliar place.  Even an amazingly trained seeing eye dog can get confused when it gets a lot of attention.
  • we have been complimented several times by several people on how well behaved our dog is, even in crowds. we've taken him to Texas A&M football games before (where our tailgate has 70+ people every week) and he did just fine.

banana, I'd have to walk the venue again, probably set the tables up. I can't visualize where the kennel will be right now. he will likely be in a corner near the designated handler. any one who is afraid of, or allergic to, the dog does not have to go near his kennel.

again, to the OP, I apologize for the hijack. anyone else who wants to discuss our animal and our personal choices related to our wedding, can start another thread, or PM me, and let the bride have her thread back.

AND, did you ever try to put a cat on a leash?  My cat kept trying to make a run for the outdoors, so I got him a collar & tags, plus asked my vet about taking him outside on a leash & what'd be required in terms of vaccinations & such.  My family doesn't do indoor/outdoor cats, so a leash was the only way to go, with a harness.

actually, i had a neighbor once who walked his cat on a leash daily. didn't have any problems. i guess every animal has a different personality.

I was SO hoping I could do this with Hunter (the cat in question).  Who knew he'd turn out to be a chicken in cat's clothing?
  • Ringbearers don't carry the real rings anyway so it's ok to skip them. As for pets, they are extremely unpredictable in that type of setting around tons of strangers. In addition to the points already made as to why not to have them there, most venues and businesses do not allow pets of any kind unless they are service animals required for a disability.
