CLUELESS at Registering for Gifts

I am staying up at night worrying about what I need to register for.  My fiance would register for 20 tvs, but I know we need things that will benefit us the most.  Please give me ideas for gifts that either I MUST register for or for things that you enjoy/benefit from the most after settling into your new house as newlyweds!!!

  • Sweetie, decide on where you want to register and then go to that store or set of stores and the registry attendant will help you.  The store will provide suggestions on what is traditionally registered for and make suggestions on other items you may want to register for.

Additionally, The Knot and other websites have about a billion articles on what to register for.  I think you'll be able to pull this off.
  • I just went to Crate and Barrel and they had a booklet with a list of suggested registry items.

Look around your kitchen, bathroom, dining room and bedroom. Things people traditionally register for include cooking and baking items, dishes, glasses, stemwear, silverwear, placemats and table cloths (both regular dishes and fine china), towels, sheets, and other linens.

Go to a few stores like Bed Bath and Beyond, Crate and Barrel, Williams Sonoma, and Macy's to se what kind of things they have and what you might like. Mkae a list of "must-have" registry items. Before I went, I knew we needed place settings, a blender, some bakewear, and champagne flutes. So I wrote it down so I wouldn't forget to list them.

Then most stores will give you a scanner and tell you to have at it.

  • I agree with making a list before you head to a store.  When you first get there it can be really overwhelming at first.  We have lived together for 3 years but knew we needed new appliances, towels, and place settings.  FI is also registering for tools and some electronics at Sears

  • its really not that hard. fiance and I went to macys and bb&b first (without telling any salespeople that we are looking to start a registry) and just wandered around and looked at things to get a sense of what we definitely needed. we went back a second day to do the actual registering. i also did some extra research online. it might seem like a daunting task but once u start looking it will be fun and pretty easy

  • The other thing that I think will help you to stop worrying a little is that once you set up your registry, you can edit it- even online at most stores. So if you forget something, you can always add it later. And you can always take things off if you decide you really don't need it.
