I am disappointing my amazing husband.

He bought us a brand new fancy washer and dryer today. And now he keeps texting me from work to find out how much I like it. But I have a horrible headache and didn't feel like going to buy the new high efficiency detergent and just want to go to bed and not do laundry.

He has been super excited about this, as apparently he is a laundry guru and the front loaders cause your clothes to fade less. I have never had anything but the cheapest on the market and it looks so fancy and complicated! It even plays little jingles when I touch the buttons.

I am very happy that I will now own a dryer that I do not have to restart 3-4 times to dry my clothes. My old dryer took so long, that I would get convinced that the clothes smelled like mildew and would rewash them over and over until they smelled good.

I think I will just wake up early (10am) and do laundry before work so he feels like I appreciate my present, which I very much do:)

Aw! I hope you feel better soon!

I love our fancy front loaders! And yes, you should only use the HE detergent and you have to wipe down the rubber gasket on the inside after each use, and keep the door open to let it air out.

My bro and sil had a really bad mildew problem because they weren't told to do that, plus the guy at the store said they could use regular detergent. Don't!

Not more mildew!!! I am already overly neurotic and sensitive about smells. Now I am going to be obsessive about wiping the gasket. And I am going to have to try not to be neurotic about the door being open. Especially since it is open against our entrance door from the garage so they will be hitting each other everytime I come in the house.

i miss my fancy front loader. when we moved our condo only fit a stackable and we couldn't afford a fancy stackable. i see why fi's cousin gave us this one for $60. it's awful.

We that same washer/drier as Sucrets---the music is my favorite, but the smell can be the worst. I have a sneaking suspicion that Rich has forgotten to wipe off the rubber sea a few times.

You don't have to leave it open all the time, I'd just do 24 hours. We leave ours open all the time, but I can close the door to the laundry room and not see it.

The difference in how clean your clothes are is amazing! You're going to love it! And drying time is so much shorter since the washer spins it much drier.

CS...I keep pushing them even though there is no laundry in there:) He got a great deal on them...he is awesome at finding stuff online. They are LG and after rebates from whereever he bought it and our gas company it was less than $1000. Which is not that much more than the pathetic machines I had before.

Our gas company gives rebates of $130...pretty nifty huh?

He is, sucrets:) He always buys things that I refuse to spend money on, or hate buying...like electronics. All his presents are things like GPS, new cell phone, computers, etc. I hate spending money on gadgets.

I so want a front load washer and dryer. FI's grandparents bought us a new pair as a housewarming present when we moved in, and as grateful as I am that they did, I wish she would have gotten a front load pair. But that was just when they were starting to be reasonably priced.

The are white roxy...by LG. I wanted anthracite, but at that price I was thrilled to get them. They are so pretty. I keep smelling them. Now if only I would use them.

EDIT:Sucrets...I keep telling him...the closer we are to having the housing situation stable and everything we need, the closer we are to baby making! We are crossing our t's and dotting our i's and getting organized for bebe. Somehow this washer plays into the plan.

questions for the front load machine lovers:

1) How are you supposed to dissolve the powder detergent in the water before you add the clothes?

2) I add a cup of white vinegar to the wash instead of using fabric softener. How are you supposed to add that to the water before you add the clothes?

3) The one I have here is my first front loader and it takes more than an hour to do a load of wash. If I use the cotton setting on the washer, it takes close to two hours. Is that a front loader issue, or a European washer issue? I can't figure out how they are supposed to be environment friendly when it uses so much electricity.

ETA: Sasha, I'm suprised the machine didn't come with samples of detergent.

1. I don't know if you can use powder detergent, we use liquid.

2. There's a little tray for all the detergents and fabric softeners...maybe you can just put it in there? I'm not sure if you can, though.

3. Yes, it takes a little over an hour for me to do a load of towels with a second rinse...on the other hand, it takes much less time to dry them, so it somewhat evens out.

But I know people who use the powdered. Water run through the tray...so it washes it out and dissolves as the water runs through it. If you're using powdered soap, you just take out the little hose thingy in the tray.

They use about 65% less water, which is environmentally friendly. They do take longer, but mine has a "quick wash" setting that I use for almost everything aside from towels and sheets. I do smaller loads and use quick wash more often than not. Unless our clothes are really dirty. I rarely wash a load that everything is 100% cotton, so I don't use the cotton setting. The dryers are AMAZING. Last night I did a load of laundry, just shirts, tshirts, long-sleeve shirts, etc, and it was a fairly full load, it took 12 minutes to dry. I think the big electricity savings are in the dryers.

P2, please don't get me started on towels that feel like sandpaper...

But the rest of the clothes, suprisingly, are not crunchy. I think it's the detergent I use. Please don't ask me which brand. The bottle is in French. I line dry in the house since it's winter here. When I was in Australia and I line dryed outside, yes they are crunchy and everything needs to be ironed. I don't like to iron underwear.

yuck. I don't iron...but it's not because I don't know how, ahem oot...but because I hate it and my dryer does a perfect job (most of the time). I don't think I could live without a dryer.
