best favor you have received

i am thinking about what favors to give. i was thinking of all creative ideas but now i'm thinking i want to give a practical favor that people will actually like or use. from the last weddings i have been to i have received chopsticks, wine stoppers, coasters and chocolate. the chocolate i gave to a kid at my table though i would've eaten it but i wasn't that excited about it. and the other favors are still in their boxes untouched!

is there a favor that you have received at a wedding that you have actually used/eaten?

I received a cake cutter at my friend's wedding shower.  I thought it was silly, but I use it all the time now.  I love favors, I like to keep them and I usually take an extra one or two (from someone that didn't show or didn't take theirs) if I can for my friend at work becasue she hates favors... lol

I think the cookie bar the couple had.  It was very cute and the cookies tasted great!

Edible stuff.  I used to think it was lame because I would eat it and have nothing to remember the wedding by, but where are all those trinkets?  I have no idea because I eventually got rid of them and have the memory of a good time.

I like matchbooks.  I can use them, and when I see the couple's names, I remember the wedding.  I also like edible stuff, but only if it's really good.  Hershey's kisses and M&Ms are cheap and completely forgettable.

If I really love the couple, I'll keep the personalized crap and try to find a reason to use it, but really, I have a good wine opener.  I have matching sets of wine glasses.  I don't serve shots at home anymore.  So I don't need any of that stuff.

Candy bar and matchbooks.  I love most edible favors and the matchbooks always come in handy when I need to light a candle.

You are very welcome!  I think sometimes people become too involved in the idea of favors for their guests, so I gave them some ideas and quotes from other brides for a better understanding.

ditto on the Christmas ornaments.  Those I liked.  I also like matchbooks, because it's nice to have matches in my bag....you just never know when you're going to need one.

We are giving glass coasters with the guest's monogram in the opening instead of a picture of us. I use coasters all the time to save my wood tables.

Of the favors I've received, matches are always good, but I like the boxes with matches vs the matchbooks. Good for lighting fires.

I bake a lot, and have used metal cookie cutters, melted chocolate and poured that into the cookie cutters for holiday favors. You can find small metal cookie cutters in hearts, diamonds, stars, and other appropriate shapes for a wedding.

    Good luck.

Sweet idea! Where did you get the honey? Online or a store?

We are doing a donation in lieu of favors.  Two wedding I've been to did this and loved the idea.  And since i volunteer for an animal rescue I thought they could use the money more then trying to figure out a favor that would please everyone.

My favorite was homemade blackberry jam in these little jars with cloth on the lids!
Have also been to a wedding where they did donations and loved it.

What we decided on was donations (to oxfam) and homemade truffles. Luckily I have the best MOH in the world who is covering the truffles (i'm helping make, she is boxing and paying) for us, this means we can put all the money budgeted towards the donation. Just made them yesterday and they are amazing!

My favorite is always chocolate. The last wedding I was at they had Godiva favors and then they had the cake in little boxes to take as you left (they served a different dessert) and it was great. FI and I ate our cake after the hour drive home, it was yummy!

We'll be doing either chocolate or half wine bottles.

Make your donation.  I believe in donations.  I make them myself.  I think they're a good thing to do.

But don't pretend that they're a favor to your guests.  Because they're not.  They're a favor to the organization, and to you.  You're taking the money you'd spend on a little something for your guests and giving it to someone else.  How do you figure that's a favor for your guests?

    Honestly, I don't need a favor.  I don't really want a favor.  You're already giving me food, drinks, entertainment.  I don't need a matchbook or m&ms (although I LOVE m&ms) as a thank you.

But please don't in any, way, shape or form think that giving $$ to a charity is somehow doing something for me.

I'd liken it to a guest coming to your wedding and giving you a card that says "In honor of your marriage, I have given a donation to the "eastern micronesia tsunami prevention fund".  It may be important to your guest, but it probably doesn't mean anything to you.  So it's not really a gift for you, is it?

No matter what we are doing a donation.  I think it is nice and meaningful.  All of my family and friends I have spoken with agree that this is a great thing to do and completley support it.  In addition to the support they are considering doing this for their events. The guest are already getting an entire night out on me and my fiance, there is no need for a favor.  And if they choose to give us a gift, no gift or a card that states "In honor of your marriage, I have given a donation to the "eastern micronesia tsunami prevention fund", we would be fine and just happy that they have decided to celebrate our day with us.

I think we are going to do the little organza bags with sugared almonds and **possibly** the personalized m&m's.  Who doesn't like candy?  I just feel like trinkety things (depending on what you get) gets thrown away and usually not remembered.  Just my opinion though, I've seen cute trinkets before but I'm choosing the candy route!

The best favor I've ever received was a decorated sugar cookie.  It was yummy! All other non-edible items have since disappeared.

It may seem tacky to some, but the best favor I have received was a koozie. I am a beer drinker, so they always come in handy. My FI and I have already decided we're going to have them at our reception.
I also always like match boxes.

I have been set on making a donation in place of buying trinkets for favors. I feel better when couples do this because I don't need any more sugar or candles or knick-knacks to eventually throw away or go straight to my hips. I feel guilty when I toss the favors they spent so much time and money on. I'd feel better knowing that that money went to a more meaningful cause. Also, with so many material things associated with weddings, I feel that it would be honorable to humble yourself and think about a charitable cause. And honestly, if a guest's feathers get ruffled because I donated money to childern's cancer research as opposed to buying them a matchbook with my name on it, they shouldn't be any guest of mine in the first place.

I completely agree with the donation.  I plan on doing the same to DonateLife as that is what saved my grandmothers life two years ago, but she just passed away.  I can't imainge ANY of my guests coming to the wedding and wondering why they don't have a favor and that it means nothing to them.  They are family and friends and will know exactly why that donation was made.  For all the brides that plan on making a donation, it should be something that has meaning to you.  And if it does, then guest would never question or feel awkward as to why you did it.  Enough with the little trinkets!!  Do something good!
