Coffee EVERYWHERE!

Okay ladies, we are having a coffee themed wedding "The Perfect Blend" and we plan on making it a coffee lover's fantasy! One of our colors is espresso, we are having a specialty coffee bar instead of an alcoholic bar (we don't drink), for favors we are making a cd of coffee shop love tunes and also making homemade chocolate covered espresso bean brownies (they are soooooo yummy). The caterers are even making a special lobster bisque cappuccino (not sure how that's going to work out yet, but we will see). I am stuck on the tables though, we are going to name each table after a flavor of coffee: Irish, Mocha, French Vanilla, so on and so on...but, I thought of two different ideas to put the table names on and I need you ladies to vote :-)

What a fun theme! I like the chalkboard idea, very coffee shop like.

  • The chalkboards are a really cute idea - I won't use chalk.  If the boards are moved around a lot after you finish writing  them out or by your venue to finish setting up, the writing might smear.  I think doing something chalkboard like with the right color background and a wooden frame more stable or writing on chalkboard with something permanent like paint.

I didn't think about that! THANKS!! On another group that I posted this on, someone recommended that I use chalk spray paint (I didn't know that existed). Has anyone ever heard/used it before?

  • Please don't take this the wrong way, but I HATE coffee.  Like WILL NOT TOUCH ANYTHING WITH COFFEE in it, hate.

Your idea is cute, but please do not go overboard with the coffee theme.  I know it's a shock, but there are other people me in the world who also don't do coffee.  Plus I don't like things with too much of a theme.

I love the chalkboard idea and having some coffee inspired theme things. (coffee beans in a vase for a CP would be cool. )

When you start talking about things like lobster-bisque cappuccino, espresso bean brownies and a coffee bar I think you are going a little overboard.   1 or 2 things food/drinks coffee based is good, more than that it gets a little overboard.

I think chalkboard spray paint in used to create the writeable surface.  It's black or blue or green or whatever and you can write on it in chalk and erase.  It might be a cheap way to create the background you want if you don't want to use a standard black or green.  I thnk to write the table names you might want to stick with regular paint or waterproof ink.

And ditto lynda - the key is not going overboard so that the non-coffee drinkers aren't put off, particularly by the food.  I agree that as an non-coffee drinker if most of your courses had a coffee taste to them I'd be really uncomfortable.

  • Thanks ladies! I think you should know your guests well enough to know when to slow it down a bit, but I have a fun crowd that is really into it and are also coffee lovers. It won't be an issue, besides at the end of the day it's all about making it fun and enjoyable. There will be so many other non coffee aspects there (just haven't named them). It is truly going to be a celebration of love (and coffee :-)

While you are clearly not a fan of the idea (which is fine), I asked a poll question and gave a little extra to those that have been interestedi n the idea. In order to get up and leave from one's event, one must be invited first! God bless

  • I too am not a coffee drinker and would really have a hard time with the food all being coffee flavored. That said, I think your idea is a super cute one and if I were your friend I'd probably be more impressed with the creative theme rather than mad that your day didn't accomodate me. I also love that you're skipping alcohol since it's not your thing and having a creative bar idea rather than just soda and tea. I voted for the chalckboard idea since it's so cute.

I like giving constructive ideas rather than critique, so here are some ideas that might stick with your coffee theme but make non coffee drinkers stick around with full stomachs. What about a nice platter with a variety of biscotti? They're great for dipping in coffee, but a non coffee drinker could nibble on them. Likewise muffins and other coffee shopped bake goods would add charm. As for drinks, a lot of coffee shops also offer things like hot chocolate and hot apple cider - things that still go in mugs and look the part (and would be cheap to make in a large quanity, not breaking your budget), but are alternatives for non-coffee drinkers.

  • OP,

I saw a picture on pinterest (below) that might be beneficial to you.
A friend of mine used it and it woked very nicely.

I agree 100% with your comment, You sound like a very classy woman, some people could learn a thing or two about that here on TK.

Also, I LOVE your theme!  I only wish I thought of it first :)
I bet your dance floor is going to be BUMPING! after everyone has their coffee fill

I am voting for chalk. Looking forward to seeing the photos after!

  • She never said ANYWHERE that all the food would be coffee flavored. Good grief.
  • OP, relax because many people on this forum are simply rude when replying (don't know why)...
As brides, we think that all here share the good humor and the unique feeling of being a bride, share opinions, but ..... There will always be the haters and people who think they should be rude just because they don't agree with us.
Once I was almost crucified for telling that I will deliver my invitations personally to each guest, which is usual here in Brazil.

YOUR Coffee theme is just wonderful!!!!!!!!!!! I voted for the chalk board, it's lovely.

Agree with previous pps, a couple's people's responses were quite rude and your classy way of handling it was awesome!

Chalkboard sounds like an awesome idea--agree with other people who said it might smudge though!

    Stay classy and happy wedding!
  • PP had it perfectly!

Mum works in a high school.  I think that there are chalk marker type things that are more permanent than regular chalk.

Best of luck!  I can't wait to see how this turns out!! This is a fantastic, original idea!
  • At least you won't have to worry about drinking and driving.

  • I agree with some of the folks who posted toward the end - you were really gracious with your responses too (better than I could have been, I might add!).  People are so rude on these boards and I really don't understand it!  They tend to project their own stuff onto other people and it is kind of weird.  Do what you want and have a great time!  It is all about the personality of your and your fiance!  It sounds like you know your guests well and know what they will enjoy!  Have a great time!
  • I LOVE your coffee theme! I am a coffee lover too, I live for the stuff!
But even if I wasn't a coffee lover, even if I hated coffee, but was lucky enough to be invited to your wedding - I would still have a good time and not turn my nose up. Its you and your man's day - everyone else is there to celebrate - not complain if they dont like it! I totally agree everyone should be more positive and less negative! We are all brides to be - or wives - just because someone does something different, doesn't mean its wrong.

What an energized reception that will be! Love it!
