Re: If you were/are a parent and

  • I would if it was at a convenient time.  I don't have kids yet and my weekends are already booked.
It's time. Adoption saving and process started in November 2012.

  • Yes, and I don't have kids. Is that creepy?
I'm very interested in the effects of nutrition and environment on autism, so I'd love to have some basic nutrition knowledge.

  • I would love it!! I think that would be a lot of fun!

  • Also, everyone should check out this magazine:

    http://www.chopchopmag.com/

I know the woman who runs the magazine and she's fantastic. The magazine is filled with tons of yummy recipes that are nutritious. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to eat healthy.

  • You are all giving me great ideas.

OWN are you sure you aren't a RD under cover? :P

  • I think it would be a great program, but that it would be hard to get parents to come in on the weekend, especially if it is designed to be an adult-only event. If parents need to take time out of their weekend AND pay for a babysitter, they may be less willing to attend.

If you could have it incorporated somehow into "Meet the Teacher Night" or parent-teacher conferences that could be cool. Maybe have the event before or after one of those things. Then parents can just ask the babysitter to stay for an extra hour and they are already out doing things at the school.

  • Is this something you would like to do beyond this class?
I would say there are lots of ways to involve the kids as well, not necessarily during the session buy at home with the parents. When kids are really interested in something, they can commit to it and really follow through.

  • I'd go.  I mean I know things about nutrition but I'm clearly not an expert.  I'd think that another class should be offered for babies and toddlers.  I watch what some of FI's friends feed their toodlers and I'm pretty sure its bad idea.

  • I would definitely go. Our benefits team offers a ton of classes either from 4-6 on the weekdays, or several times on the weekend. They do everything from dieting/weight loss, pre-natal care, how to communicate with your partner/teen/parents, financial counseling, etc. It's awesome.
  • My only concern is that you are assuming that there are a large number of parents who a) want to learn about child nutrition, and b) don't already know about it.  I would think that those who want to learn about it would have done so before actually having the children.
  • I would go if there was a keg.
