People are idiots

This family is about an hour from my hometown.

Basically a soldier's mom sent a homesick soldier a picture of a little girl he took care of back home, she was playing in her swimsuit and had a wedgie and now he's being accused of child pornography.

Seriously?

Re: People are idiots

  • ...I really need to proofread.  I've been bad about this lately.
    Photobucket
  • It's so ridiculous. People have become so paranoid and anal about these types of things and its not helping them find the real criminals.
  • I like the response about the coppertone baby.  Its just ridiculous.
    Photobucket
  • Wow. That is ridiculous.
  • That is awful.

I don't know that "people are idiots" so much as "people will find ways to find random innocent things offensive".

  • That is pretty dumb.
  • Might not be the best title, but i do think whoever reported him is an idiot for being offended by something like this.
    Photobucket
  • I also think it's ridiculous.

But here's some food for thought. WHAT IF it was found out he molested her? Then people would be like, "DUDE he had pictures of her in her swimming suit and NO ONE thought to think there was something wrong with that?!!?!11"

I just think people want the best of both worlds. People think people who are sex offenders are monsters and that something somewhere got overlooked that could have prevented it, but at the same time we're saying stuff like this is ridiculous.

    Where's the line, ya know?

What the hell is with this comment?

you guys don't get the point, if you have naked pictures of anyone under 18, its child porn. doesnt matter if its your kid or a kid related to you. why the hell do you need naked pictures of kids related to you anyways?

Well, apparently I'm in possesion of child porn then because I have pics of my self as a naked butt baby...

  • I see where you're getting at Fish, but there isn't any evidence of molestation.  Maybe they are investigating that now and we don't know.  I think its more people are overly paranoid about this type of thing, and now it seems like all innocence is lost.
    Photobucket
  • Roxy, that's the sort of sentiment that I think has put us into this crazy child-porn paranoia.

Is it disgusting if the person is a child molester and has photos of little kids?  Sure

But it's also bad if you find an off the wagon alcoholic with booze.  That doesn't mean that the booze (or photos) in this case are bad.  It's that if he IS a molester then the photos are bad.

But if you're going to say photos like that are awful, you'll need police driving through every town in the summer to make sure that no parent lets her baby run nekkid through a sprinkler or topless in just her diaper.

  • Exactly Shelly, innocence is lost. It's sad.

  • I can see it now, 10 years down the road new parents wil be saying "You actually took pictures of your toddlers naked in the bathtub playing and it was legal? How did you get away with that!"
  • I agree, and most molestation doesn't come out until way after the fact.

I'm not saying that he molested her by any means, but what if 2 years down the line it came out that he did and it was found he had those pictures in his barracks? I guarantee people would be all up on the army for not doing something about it.

I also don't know if maybe the military has guidelines about that somewhere?

    Anyone? Anyone?

  • My sister had taken pictures of my nephew when he was in his infancy of close-up body parts...feet, hands, face, ears, nose, etc, and included in that was a photo of his butt. She had posted them on MySpace (when it was all the rage) and it was removed for being "inappropriate"

It was clearly in an artistic way.

I do see Fishy's point, completely, but people are overly crazed about that sort of thing.
  • No idea either.

But I have a feeling that quite a few soldiers have bathtub photos of their own kids.

I don't know why my posts keep getting centered at random.

I really wish that TK's IT department could get it together.
  • What about people who take the "artsy" family pictures right after a baby is born?  Where everyone is naked?

    Why aren't those people questioned?
    Photobucket
  • It'd be interesting to know.

If molestation was one of those things that everyone knew RIGHT AWAY when it happened, it'd be different. But a lot the time it takes years and years and years for the abuse to come out.

Again, I'm not saying that their course of action against this man is just, but moreso about where do we draw the line and at what point do our opinions change?

Would your perspective change if in 3 years there's this news story about a soldier who molested this girl and she just came out with it and it was reported that he had these pictures up in his room?

  • I'm sure it would change, but I know in the back of my head I would think "she has clothes on, how is that porn?"
    Photobucket
  • I really, REALLY dislike those "artsy" pictures and don't think they belong on facebook or myspace.

People have NO IDEA who's lurking out there. Those to me are private pictures you take for your family not to share with god and everyone.

AND I don't understand why as soon as a baby is born everyone has to take off all of their clothes to take pictures with their baby. It's weird.

  • Fische- IF the pictures were fully naked and it came out later he molested her then yes, it would change my perspective.
But because the pictures only show a small amount of butt, I dont think my opinion would change on the matter ( I can't sa for sure though)
  • Ditto Shelly.  If she wasn't dressed inappropriately, I'd wonder how that's porn.

  • I've never seen pictures where everyone is naked?? I s this common..
  • I would find it horrifying if he even had any pictures of his victims up. The kids don't have to be naked to jack off. Just the sight of children is arousing.

I've seen them a couple of times.  usually its all black and white, you can't see anything, everyone is covered but they are at least topless, and usually holding a naked newborn.
    Photobucket
  • Oh, I guess I have seen pictures of a topless mom holding a naked baby. I think they're odd.

I do agree. I will say, however, that in my sister's case, it was an album only viewable by friends, not the entire world of MySpace.
