Registry- When and Where??

I know most people register at the 4-8 month point- But I've had alot of people ask me if I'm registered yet because they want to start getting us registry gifts for our birthdays, holidays, etc. So I'm considering registering in May, a year in advance. Just curious- how early did everyone register (or when are you planning to)? I figured I would register for a few things at one place and hold off on the rest to avoid everything being discontinued. We’ll be registering at Macy's and Bed, Bath, & Beyond. Do you ladies have any idea as to which store discontinues their items more often? I'd like to register for a few things at the one that discontinues items the least.  Thanks for the help!

We registered in November and are getting married this September. We knew we wanted to be registered for when we sent out the save the dates and we sent those in January. I didn't want to register in December b/c of the craziness right before the holidays, so that's why we registered in November. Just be vigilant in checking it because some things are discontinued.

We also registered at Bed, Bath and Beyond and Macys. We physically went to BBB but I just registered online for Macys (only like 5 items). Macys does discount all the time, whereas BBB has pretty consistent pricing.

    Hope this helps!

We registered really early for the same reasons you said. Plus, we had an engagement party a long time ago and my MOH suggested I register.  No one ended up using the registry but it was good to get it started anyway.
I just kept checking it every once in a while for discontinued items.  Sometimes the actual item wouldn't be discontinued, but it would be listed under a new item # so I'd have to delete and do a new search for the item.  It wasn't that bad though.

We're registered at Macy's, Crate and Barrel, and BBB.  I'm kind of regretting BBB though.  I ended up cutting that one way down- only because that one ended up having stuff that we didn't really "need" for a new house- just a bunch of extras.  I registered for towels at Macys, dishes at C&B, and appliances between those two.  People like BBB though because of the coupons.  Macys does a really good job with sales.

On a side note, I was really impressed with the C&B registry event.  They had a bunch of drinks (mimosas, coffee, tea) and food...breakfast stuff..wedding cake...along with a lot of helpful staff and a thank you gift at the end!

    GL!!

We also registered really early for the same reasons. It was great because we got a lot of stuff off the registries that we needed at Christmas and on birthdays and stuff. We registered at Crate & Barrel, BBB, and Target. I just kept an eye on them and replaced items that were discontinued.

If we could go back and do it again, I would have skipped Target. Target got cleaned out, but most of the items could have also been found at BBB. Crate & Barrel was by far our favorite registry and it was barely touched since there are only 2 locations in Connecticut and BBB and Target were much more convenient. Online shopping? Hello? Haha..

We registed for the same reason with family asking and bday, holidays etc. We registered around the end of November/Early December.

We registered at BB&B only! I really wasn't loving anywhere else except Pier One but they do not do registries! BOOO!

We registered at Macys and Pampered Chef...I did the Macys registry 9 months ahead (3 months ago) and I was surprised serveal things were discontinued already. It's fine if it's kind of random stuff (like you can replace one waffle maker with another), but it would kind of suck if you were trying to make everything match....

We just updated Macys this weekend and started the Pampered Chef one because we sent out the Save the Dates!

I recommend registering as soon as you have a moment to do so amidst all the crazy initial wedding planning. We were engaged in December, started registering in late January for our September 2011 wedding. We have already received our first wedding gift and I have heard another was purchased.

    We registered at:
*Bed Bath and Beyond (I highly recommend)
*Target at first (I do not recommend--HORRIBLE return policy)
*ended up putting remaining Target items into the MyRegistry.com registry--and linking it to an Amazon.com registry (highly recommend)
*We are also registering for an old china pattern via Replacements, LTD (great company, highly recommend)
*And we are encouraging charity donations in lieu of gifts for a homeless shelter, of which I am on the board of directors (highly recommend when seen in previous weddings)
