I think most Canadians have to know what they are but I didn't know they had them in the states... this is officially "the thing" I have learned today!
and you haven't really fallen in love with cheese curds yet if you haven't had them on a poutine (the national dish of canada)
And you must eat poutine with a beaver while wearing a touque, drinking maple syrup and playing hockey. EH?
Cheese curds are balls/clumps/pieces of fairly salty cheese that are typically deep fried. You can get the cheese curds prior to deep frying and those are in fact squeeky when you eat them. They are quite delicious, but not in the slightest bit healthy.
I know what they are (there's not a whole lot of foods I don't know about; child of 2 chefs here!), but have never partaken. However, if it's fried, I'm so down.

Bren, I won't judge your Canadian-ness on disliking poutine if you don't judge mine on my inability to skate? Haha
Side Note: Oh My Gosh - They deep fry curd??? I thought the best thing deep fried from the south was pickles... I may reconsider and plan a road trip immediately
I then recommend going to the MN state fair. There is a plethora of fried foods - more than you can eat in a day - and its happening at the end of the month.
We went to Wisconsin and had them. I like them better fried, but they are ok regular and squeaky. They had one place in Madison, at the farmer's market that had cheese you GRILLED> It was still some what hard on the outside but all melty on the inside. Like eating a grilled cheese sandwich without the bread. YUMMY.. GO CHEESE (sorry had to say it)
Here are some of the fried foods that the fair offers:
Deep fried cheeseburger sliders Deep fried fruit on a stick Chicken Fried Bacon (thick-cut bacon battered and breaded, fried and served in a boat covered with gravy). Deep fried shortcake. Deep fried cheesecake. Deep fried twinkies. Deep fried candy bars. Deep fried oreos. Deep fried green beans. Deep fried bacon cheddar mashed potatoes on a stick. Deep fried alligator. Fried green tomatoes.

Kat - Well my RSVP date is Monday and I still have 53 people to hear from. I feel like the reminders that got sent out last Saturday didn't do much of anything.
Other than that - I mainly have food stuff left to make. That mainly won't be until the last few days. I have the escort cards left, and menus for the dessert table. I guess I don't really have an overwhelming amount of stuff to do.
How about you? Are you done with what you can be done with or are you frantic?

This is what we like to call "The Great Minnesota Get Together."
It has gotten to the point now where everyone tried to come up with the next most bizarre item. This past year it was a peanut better hotdog with bananas and chocolate on top. Also putting foods on a stick is a pretty big deal too.
I know what cheese curds are but I've never seen them fried. I don't like cheese unless it's melted so I hate cheese curds. I feel like if I had them fried I might like them...
Kat: Garbage plate = ew (food can't touch for me, if it came on a divided plate, I'd be all over it!)
I'm from the Thousand Islands (Upstate NY) and I grew up on cheese curds. Ever since I moved away I haven't been able to find anyone else who knows about them! So happy there's others who know about them!

I can't skate either! So embarrassing... BF swears he's going to teach me sometime. I also hate bacon. I'm such a bad Canadian! You should all just drown me in maple syrup.

Wayy better when not deep fried - I love squeeky cheese. They are only squeeky when they are fresh. When we went on our cheese tour on the HM they werent making any that day :( so I was stuck with non squeeky curds boo!
I didn't think so either! I mean how can you not know about cheese curds?! I learned this when my brother moved to CA. He went to the fair there and they didn't have cheese curds. His GF is born and raised in CA and she has no clue what they are.
If they are deep fried they are not squeeky. They aren't creepy squeeky. well not in my mind anyway. If you like cheese a whole lot you would probably enjoy them.
