Women and cars

Re: Women and cars

  • P.S. I started getting my oil changed at Walmart because all they do is tires and lube.  If not there, then Jiffy Lube or an oil change only kind of place.  Same goes for other services - needed a new battery recently so I just went to AutoZone (where they install for free) but they don't offer other repairs so they won't try to talk you into it.

He would have totally fallen for it.

My dad always tried to make me watch him work on the car when I was a kid.  Now I kind of wish I had.

I went to Jiffy Lube. They do more than just oil changes.

  • I just went to NTB for my oil change and tire rotation. $500 dollars later I had new rear brakes also. I did check it over with DH first before I gave the go ahead. But holy crap I could have gotten all this done for less then half this price where I used to live. And I knew so many people that wouldnt give me the run around. It sucks moving.

That's what I meant. I was thinking, "I can't imagine not having self service."
Typing ahead of my brain, sorry.

  • My dad has worked at dealerships for over 30 years (he was an estimator for body damage, not regular service) and they are the absolute worst with trying to screw people over with service charges, especially women.  Not to mention that they charge about 4 times to do the same thing that a smaller shop can do.  I NEVER take my car to get fixed at a dealer, only diagnosed (my new car has a service plan for oil changes and a warranty, so that's the only thing they do).

My last car was having cooling issues, so I did take it to a dealer for them to diagnose it.  They quoted me $900 to fix it, my FI and I went to autozone and spent $30 on the parts and it took 10 min to change it out.  FI took his car to a dealer to diagnose a problem he was having and they told him his entire hose system was wrong and it would be $1500 to change it, just to look at the paperwork and see that they had the WRONG model and year car quoted, which is why they thought the hoses were wrong.  Dealers are a ripoff.

  • H and I both know nothing about cars so we have to trust our mechanic. He has been very good in the past though to my parents and to us. He's looked at my car a couple times for "funny noises" free of charge and reduced our bill by $400 once for parts/labor that the mechanic did that was unncessary (long story).
