Bringing Rustic Indoors

We are going for a rustic/outdoorsy/casualness type of wedding. We have moss green table runners with daisy trim, for example.

However, our venue is not really in the zone for that. It's not a typical ballroom, but it's really not very rustic-y at all.  Huge floor to ceiling windows along two walls overlooking a garden (might be covered in snow), a unique ceiling that I really can't hang anything from, and some greenish patterned carpeting.

How can I decorate (cheaply) to make it more outdoorsy?  I can't hang anything from the ceiling or the walls. Also, we only have two hours day-of to do all the decorating. So for during those two hours we have to set up the runners, the centerpieces, placecard table, cake table, and the foyer area. So it's gotta be something quick to put in/set up.

Any ideas are most appreciated!

I am having a rustic themed wedding as well! Although our venue is a historic barn, I have been focusing on a lot of the little details to tie in my rustic theme. We are using antique and vintage mason  and milk jars all over including our centerpieces. I am decorating the jars with twine, burlap, and ribbon in our wedding colors, I have burlap table runners for both cocktail and reception tables, we will also have mason jar candles.

I am big on DIY and crafts so I made little details for our candy buffet table including twine wrapped letters with little accents in our colors, a wood ampersand sign which is charcoal grey to go in between our twine wrapped initials, a "love is sweet" banner made out of burlap. We have tons of antique wood crates, my FI and his good friend are making our escort card holder which is out of recycled wood and I will have my escort cards hanging from string and clothes pins. Our card holder is a hige rustic lanter with an opening at the top for guests to drop the cards in. It also has a small burlap banner with "cards" going along the front. HTH! I can send you pictures if you want as well. Let me know!

Are you in pinterest?? They have great inspiration pictures on there! I am obsessed with it and have gotton a lot ideas from it. Another site I  love is etsy! Awesome ideas as well!

I have also seen wood slabs that you can use on tables for centerpieces, and even rustic wedding cake holders.

  • Does the venue not allow you to hang things?  We had dd's birthday party at the zoo and they didn't allow tape, nails, or staples.  I ended up buying a bunch of the clear 3M hooks with the adhesive that you just pull down to release.  They hold really well, come in tons of sizes, and don't leave any marks.  I would ask the venue if they'd allow those.

The other thing I've seen done is to tie clear fishing line to your decor, tie the other end to a paper clip, and slip that in between the ceiling tile and the metal brackets in between the tiles.  That's how we always hung snowflakes and such in my college dorm.

Which type of "rustic" are you going for - a barn-type thing, shabby chic, hunting cabin-ish, etc?  Maybe you can find a large branch to dry out, spray paint if need be, and put in flower pots near the windows.  You can drape those with spanish moss that you can buy at most craft stores.  A strand of white lights on the branches would look pretty at night.

Ditto the milk jars/mason jars.  I'm going to DIY something like this for my centerpieces http://www.etsy.com/listing/44602024/diy-wedding-flowers-mason-jars?ref=sr_gallery_5&ga_search_query=mason+jar+centerpiece&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_ship_to=ZZ&ga_min=0&ga_max=0&ga_search_type=all but I'm getting the canning jars at Walmart and using these taped to the tops http://www.orientaltrading.com/easy-arranger-bridesmaid-bouquet-set-a2-41_1587-12-1.fltr?Ntt=bridesmaid+bouquet We're also going to do a burlap runner with the ends tied in our wedding color ribbons  http://puredymondsevents.blogspot.com/2011/10/burlap-inspirations.html

    Hope that helps a little!
