How many rose petals do you need?

I'm shopping around through wholesalers and I'm stumped on how many rose petals you need..... one place says a batch is 6,000 and another said 400 per batch. I was planning on using them for my flower girl... then if there was a little extra, I might toss a few around the reception room.

    I'm not sure since we didn't have a flower girl, but I would think that 400 would be  way more than enough.  Although, I have no idea how many 400 actually is.  6,000 just seems like a HUGE amount just for the flower girl.

    I think my mom ended up buying 1 or 2 dozen roses and the dude at Harris Teeter sat there and pulled off EVERY petal for her. She said it took forever but who wants to stop someone who's trying to be helpful??
