Pre-wedding Parties

engagement party question

Ive been engaged since May 09 but havent had an engagement party bc my parents wanted to wait till my sister was done with Medical school. My wedding is in March 2011, would it still be appropriate for my parents to host an eparty for us at a restaurant. We just didnt want to throw it 2 yrs before the wedding...now that its getting closer it feels more appropriate. Is that ok?

why not! go for it--you should celebrate being engaged even if its a while later! :)

thanks lol...i just thought it would be silly having one right after we got engaged then having our wedding 2 yrs later...we just started planning our wedding so our e party can be the kick off to all things wedding!

I agree, its tacky...thats why i'm not planning, paying nor throwing my own party. I'm only trying to figure out if its still appropriate for my parents to host one even though we've been engaged for a while. We knew we couldnt start planning our wedding now so we wanted to wait on the festivities...but thanks!!

I disagree, StageManager, I see the engagement party as a way to bring everyone together before the wedding. I loved having the opportunity for my future in laws to meet my family and for all of both of our bridal parties and close friends to meet, since everyone is normally spread out across the country. I say you should go for it!

We're throwing our own engagement party. It'llbe a first for me as I've never been to one before, haha!
We're doing it because our wedding is on an island...which means if you go, your life will be run according to the ferry schedule. There's limited lodgings on the island and no nighttime ferry. We'll be able to see our mainland friends (mainly his cowokers) who want to come out to the island but are fretting because they really, genuinely, feel sad they can't/are fearful they won't be able to get out there.

And it's still not appropriate to throw any party in honor of yourself.
