Need new dress

Due to some family drama my dress, which was a gift, was taken back by the gifter.

My MIL cancelled our reception she was paying for as well.

The reception is a bit easier to plan, but I'm sad over my dress.

At this point I assume I have to buy off the rack, since I had an alterations appointment for 2 weeks from now.

There are all kinds of things I can say, none are nice.

Wow that is absolutely awful. What a horrid thing to have to deal with.

Maybe you could find the same dress used if it doesn't have too much bad karma attached to it? My dress came in in like 3 weeks from Alfred Angelo, maybe one of the big bridal stores could get you a dress quickly.

I really hope you can get everything settled quickly.

How awful. I would go shopping asap, I still think you might be able to get a dress. Ditto with alfred angelo, mine came in literally 2-3 weeks after I ordered it. Also, you can see if you can buy a sample dress. These are often discounted as well

Thank you guys. The dress is one of the easier to deal with things done this weekend, if that gives you an idea of what our family has been through.

I have no desire to buy the same dress. I want something completely different that doesn't remind either of us of the dress.

I'm looking at CL, I have a friend with a dress she will lend me if it fits, and I'm going to some bridal consignment shops with John's sister on Saturday.

What size are you? I have a beautiful size 8 dress that has never been used, hanging in my closet that I am trying to get rid of.

I'm a size 10 - 14 in most wedding dresses. My street size is 10 or 12 in pants and 6 or 8 in tops. :(

Aw, this sucks, I'm really sorry to hear that you're going through so much drama!

Legally, you can't take something back once it's been given as a gift. So if you really wanted to, you have some legal wiggle room there. I would file a police report, get the dress back and either wear it or return it for store credit. This would, however, cause a lot more problems with the IL's, I'm sure. Sorry your FMIL is being such a turd.

If you can find a talented seamstress, they can probably make you a dress, based on pics. I had a friend who couldn't find something she LOVED so she brought in pics of this bodice, this skirt, that kind of bolero and got a custom dress made for about $400. Not name brand, but definitely one of a kind and it was done in less than a month.

Do you have a David's Bridal near you? They really do have a lot of dresses and tons already in the store. You could always rush a dress too. Besides- their alterations occur later in the game- they scheduled mine for a month and a half before the wedding (though they are expensive.) Maybe try them?

If you can't find one off of the racks, look into having a seamstress make one for you. That is what I am doing. I found a dress that I loved, it was 5x over my budget - so I showed my seamstress and she said it was totally doable and we are changing a few things to make it exactly what I want. She made my cousins dress a few years ago in a month and a half.

Thanks for the ideas.

Legally I can go after her for the dress. We are waiting to see what her next move is to see if I pursue the dress. Even if I am given my dress back, I don't know that I want to wear it.

MIL started dating a guy she met off of Match and there has been a split in the family over the new boyfriend, so it's not a dispute at me so much as a general split between she and her children. Hurts like hell to see the family go through this.

I'm so sorry you are going through so much. That sounds absolutely awful. Have you checked recycled bride yet? They have a lot of nice dresses at reasonable costs. As it's all dealing with an actual person, you can probably work out rush shipping or something.

Really sorry to hear of all the stress and drama. We had a family spilt in my family a few years ago and its really sad that people have to go through that. Life is too short.

Definitely don't give up hope on the dress, you have options!
I agree with the poster who suggested Davids Bridal, they can order most dresses in within a few weeks. AND if you don't have one nearby you can order directly off of their site. Just check the size chart on each dress before buying but I've found their size charts to be spot on. They have no shipping charges now and you can order several styles at once and then return (non clearance) dresses within 14 days.....

I too have dresses for sale (yes plural...sigh dont ask!) One is a maggie sottero size 12 corset and the other is a size 10 DB chiffon dress.

It will work out! Hope things get better for you and your family!

How much are you asking for the Maggie Sottero? Which one is it?

I doub't if the DBs would fit, unless it's very forgiving over the hips. I'm hippy with a small bust.
