Getting in Shape

Emergency Motivation! Say YES to the Dress and NO to the cookie!!

So one way to get motivated is by your seamstress telling you that unless you lose 10-15 pounds in the next month your dress will need a major overhaul to get you in it!!

My fiance and I got engaged in August of 2008 and planned to wed September of 2009.  However, I was permanently laid off and trying to find a job ever since with a couple of temp jobs in between, so we decided to hold off a year to get grounded.  So now that I've had my dress for a year and half (and happiness is not always kind to the waistline) and we're absolutely getting married this September I'm in trouble!  I've been trying since December to get on the healthy band wagon and I've only lost 10 pounds.  Now I have to bump that up and do it in a month!  I know it's doable but oh my god...

If ANYONE would love to share some words of wisdom or anything that has worked well for them I am open!!  I've changed my eating habits and belong to SparkPeople.com and have started trying to do at LEAST 30 minutes of exercise a day.  But HELP!!  I REFUSE to have a major overhaul done on my dream dress because I couldnt' put down the cookie!!

  • I am right there with you!! i was just told 2 days ago by the alterations lady that if I don't lose 10 pounds or more my dress is going to have to have some major work.. I have until august 6th ..then the wedding is in september .. I wish you luck!
  • ok so when i post about this i always have someone say something negative but once agian....you should do the HCG diet. i started may 8th and i lost 24.4lbs (didn't work out once). i'm in the 3rd phase of the diet right now where you don't lose anymore. if you haven't heard of it google dr simenos pounds and inches. and make sure you buy the "real" hcg...lots of fake stuff on internet.  it takes a lot of self control but it is so worth it.

So what she's trying to say is she is in no way healthy and quite possibly risking her life by losing a drastic amount of weight on a crazy fad diet, but hell she fit into the dress!
  • nope no risking my life here. and since i only eat organic fresh foods i see myself as very healty....and sexy too ;)   and since it's a life style change i see myself being more healtly now at 127 eating right then i was at 151 eating junk!
he discoverd this diet in the 1950's...it used to be very costly because it was only given by shots but now it comes in a liquid form....that is why more people are talking about it these days.

  • Wwnbw, eating 500 calories a day is starvation and is not healthy.

  • i don't see that as starvation. i was never hungy and my body worked just fine off of the 500 calories....besides it is only for 45 days. now i'm in the 3 weeks "setting the weight" and i can have as many caloires per day as i please.

  • my 45 days:
    1/2 grapefurit at 10
3.5 oz steak and 1/2 lettuce at 12
    apple or orange at 3
3.5 oz chicken or shrimp and 1/2 cup cucumber at 5

agian i don't see that as starvation

  • 500 calories a day isn't even enough for proper brain function. That's not healthy.

  • Wow, I just saw something on the doctor's about brides to be dying from starvation.  That sounds rough...

OP - track your calories and get more than 30 min cardio in a day if you can.  Even just walk for more.  And you ladies are making me nervous, my dress fitting is in a few weeks!  LOL

the only thing that i've ever found successful in helping me lose weight is that i absolutely stop eating after 7:30pm. also eat most of your carbs early in the day...

i also always lose weight when i cut out alcohol.  Embarassed

good luck!  i know how hard it is....

  • If you still love your sweets/"unhealthy" foods and don't mind cooking and making a little extra efford at the grocery store "Now Eat This" By Rocco DiSpirito and any of the Hungry Girl cook books are amazing. They are both regular, hometown, American favorite dishes, just healthy. All the food tastes delicious and most of the time I don't even realize I'm eating "healthy". It just good food thats good for you. I replaced 2-3 dinners a week with one of these and I've lost about 10 lbs in 5 weeks without any exercise or anything.

    Good luck!

  • You should never go below 1200 calories a day.  If you need to lose more weight than that allows for, you will need to increase your activity level.

  • I am also on HCG and love it. While u are only eating 500 calories the hormone uses ur body's stored fat for its function. it speeds up ur metabolism.  The diet has been around for so long. I love how clear my skin is, and also I am alot less hungry. http://www.oralhcgsolution.com/instructions
