Cake Ribbon? Help!

Hi guys!

So I have a stupid question... I'm looking for turquoise ribbon for my cake, and I'm not sure where to get it. Can it be any kind of ribbon- like something I wold buy at a craft store? Or does it have to be "cake" ribbon.

Yes, I know... a stupid question. LOL

Any advise on where I can find some... sparkly turquoise ribbon would be even better! ::big smile:: Has anyone seen anything like this?

We used fabric ribbon from the craft store and they peeled it off to cut the cake.  It looked pretty but was a tad messier than we had thought it would be.

My baby girl is a married woman...and now my baby girl HAS a baby girl. Time unfolds in such an amazing way. I've been blessed!

You can use any kind of ribbon. When you go to cut the cake you will just need to peel the ribbon off.

My aunt does cakes and made mine, so I picked everyting out with her.  The ribbon she used was from a craft store, and we just picked the pink we liked and black.  When we did our cake cutting I think we were supposed to peel the ribbon, but we didn't and we just cut into the ribbon.  All it did was push the ribbon down.  If you are only asking for your  cake cutting then don't worry about it.  It won't ruin the cake, it just pushes down.  You don't need a perfect piece for that.  Ours was wheeled right off the dance floor as soon as we finished so nobody even saw the ribbon.  In the kitchen they removed the ribbon before cutting it.

Check out Jo-Ann stores, Michael's, AC Moore, etc. to find a color you like.

Technically ribbon at the craft store is not food grade and should have a food safe backing applied so the ribbon does not touch the cake.

It would not hurt to call a couple bakeries and ask them what to use for your cake - they decorate all the time and know what will work and what does not.

You may ask your baker -- my cake woman is doing a bow on top of mine made out of fondant...so it;s the exact color of the detail on the cake, only a little extra, and can be assembled before it is transported!
