Sunday Wedding?

Re: Sunday Wedding?

I'm getting married on a Sunday in July.  I, personally, prefer Sundays over Fridays (especially in the summer) because of rush hour traffic, shore traffic, and the fact that in my experience many people are late to Friday weddings for the above reasons or because they misjudge what time they need to leave work in order to make it to the ceremony on time.

We're doing a Sunday instead of a Saturday because of price and because most of the people on FI's side work Monday-Saturday so they'd most likely wind up missing at least part of our ceremony because they're notoriously late to begin with and most likely wouldn't leave work at an early enough time (they wouldn't take off work entirely because they'd assume they'd be able to fit both in and then their timing would just be off).

We figure that the people who love us will be at our wedding regardless and most of our family members and friends have already told us that they're taking off on Monday or going to work late on Monday.  Plus, if the music is good and the alcohol is flowing then the party will be good and even the people who initially plan on leaving early and/or going to work the next day will wind up staying until the very end and will take off of work the next day anyway.

We're not concerned at all.  Oh, and just to share... our ceremony starts at 3:30, our cocktail hour is 4:00-5:00, and the dinner/dancing portion of the reception is from 5:00-9:00 (possibly 10:00 if we decide to extend it by an hour).

I'm having a Sunday wedding ending at 12:30am!  lol Im not really worried, only you know your crowd. In my family theyre all crazy party animals.. so it could be a Sunday, Tuesday, or Saturday.. they'll stay til the very end either way.
And if you have your heart set on a place, don't change eveything just for a couple of guests you think MIGHT leave early. AND you'll be giving them a heads up waay in advance, so its not like they wont have a chance to plan accordingly.

Bonnet Island Estate (right off LBI) - she mentions it in her original post. I'm assuming it's only open seasonally.

While Saturday is probably best, I think more people would show up for Friday over Sunday. I went to a Friday wedding this summer - the ceremony was at 3:30, and the church was packed! I did have to take off from work to go to that wedding, but I'd have had to do the same if the wedding were on Saturday. A lot of people do have unconventional work schedules.

We had a Sunday wedding that had the ceremony at 4:30pm and reception from 5-10pm.  All of our friends were OOT, so they all stayed overnight.  We did have some older relatives who lived an hour or so away leave around 9:15 or so, but we expected that.  Overall, we still had a great party and everyone had a good time.  .  But, with that said, we knew having a Sunday wedding would cause some people who were OOT not to come (especially those who had kids and didn't want to take a day off of work).  As a guest, I personally prefer Sunday weddings to Friday weddings (Saturday is always my first choice, though!).

Maybe Sunday is less than ideal but at the top-of-the-line venues, you will save yourself and your family possibly 10-15 K by having your wedding on Sunday. For a venue like Bonnet Island, I say go for it girl!! People will not want to leave that place. It is soo gorgeous. The cool thing about it is that your guests can stay over because I believe they have rooms there. Poll some of your closest friends/family and see if they are planning to take the next day off. My family is Greek and loves to party. All of my cousins have gotten married on Sundays and I have taken vacation days on Monday and made a nice long weekend out of their weddings. I am getting married this July at my dream venue and had to settle on a Sunday because of pricing. I have a lot of teacher friends who will be off because it's summer and many grad student friends who will also be off of school. I've even had people tell me that they will leave for their vacations the day after my wedding because it's in the middle of summer! If you've got a carefree fun bunch, they'll go with the flow and enjoy it! Come on people, we're not 14 and it's not a school night! Has no one on this board gone out to dinner with their fiance on a work night and gone to bed past 11:30? My fiance has an odd work schedule so we go out to dinner and drink a bottle or two of wine during the week all the time!

I just booked a june 2012 Sunday wedding at Bonnet Island so excited!!! I am jewish so used to sunday weddings, everyone I know takes off Monday especially for summer weddings so I was not worried. We are planning on starting at 4 for those people who will go home it will end at 930 but honestly I think for a summer shore wedding people are dying to take off. I asked a lot of my guests if they would prefer me waiting to a three day weekend that was allowable, (Memorial Day 2012 falls on a Jewish Holiday so was out)I was told no that holiday shore weekends are a mess and a Sunday would not be a problem. If you are having a huge wedding with lots of work assoc or something I would say people may leave but your close friends and family are there to celebrate with you for the count!
