Dress irritation

Hey ladies.

I fell in love with this beautiful, beaded, lace dress. That is the gown I purchased. Because there is so much detail at the top, my underarms are sure to get irritated and the last thing I want is to be uncomfortable. I asked the lady at the dress place about it and she said there is a special wax you can put on it the day of that will prevent chaffing. Have any of you ever done this?

She also said canning wax works wonders, but I'm too nervous! I don't want to ruin my dress! Any suggestions?

    Never done it for a formal event, only marathon training.  I've never had it ruin any running clothes so I don't think it'd hurt a dress.  You could always try it out, wear it around the house with a tank top and see how it feels & if it rubs off at all.

    I'm wondering it the stuff for thigh chaffing that you get at the drugstore would work. It rubs on super smooth and I don't think it has ever transferred to clothes. I want to say it's vagisil brand or somethign weird like that.

    I used BodyGlide for a marathon.  It works well and didn't seem to be a problem with my clothes.  I'd give it a test run first, though.

    The part that I'm worried about chafing is under my arms from the beading? So do you girls think if I put that on my skin it will prevent chafing from that?

    I was under the impression that she wanted me to put whatever wax it was on the dress itself. It all just makes me nervous!

    I have heard of people put wax on their dress under the arms - I am considering it for my dress, although there isn't a ton of beading... I just have pretty sensitive skin.  I would definitely have someone experienced do it for you, like whoever is doing your alterations.  Maybe they can show you a dress with wax on the beading so you can see what it looks like?

    Hmmmm...  I'd be hesitant to put anything on the dress.  Although if anything, the canning wax doesn't sound like a bad idea.  You could test it on a very small portion and see how it goes.  Or if you have the opportunity, you could wear the dress for maybe four or five hours (sound like fun to me) and see if you have a problem and how bad it is.

    My thought is that walking while swinging your arms is what would cause the chafing on your wedding day.  Do you think your arms will be rubbing against the dress a lot?  Maybe not...

    Yeah, I'll ask my seamstress and I'll do a little more research.

    At my brother's wedding, under my arms chafed and there wasn't any beading, so I'm assuming that will just add to it for me. I just couldn't say no to that dress though!

    Another option to consider might be removing the beading that is directly under your arms. That was something my alterations person mentioned because I have to have my dress let out, and to make it more comfortable they will not replace the beading and no one will ever notice...

    Yeah, I'd definitely have a seamstress remove any beading that could cause chafing. I am totally perplexed about why any designer would do something like that! I'm sure removing the beads will fix the problem. I wouldn't put wax on anything besides my legs or a surfboard :P
