Register for cake topper?

Is is tacky to have your cake topper on your bridal registry? The place I'm registered at has cake toppers, but I'm not sure whether I should add it to the registry!

No you should not add it.  It would be tacky.  You should not ask your guests to pay for anything that would be part of your wedding, and that's pretty much what you would be doing.  HTH!

  • I agree, I wouldn't put it on the registry.

I agree, especially because a cake topper is not something to "build your life together", its used once and then either thrown out or put in some china cabinet. however, to play devils advocate, plenty of people register for their guest book, toasting flutes, and cake cutting set for the reception and no one seems to care.

  • I agree it would be kinda tacky, Plus what if no one gets it for you, you'll be stuck without a cake topper or having to buy it last minute.
  • I wouldn't put it on there.  Go buy it yourself.

I care.  I always find these things really weird.  Especially because there's no way to know whether you will get them before your wedding.  What if somebody doesn't realize you intend to use the flutes or cake cutting set at the wedding and buys it, planning to give it to you at the wedding?

In any event, I wouldn't do it.  It's too much like asking people to pay for pieces of your wedding.  The worst one I saw was somebody who put wedding thank you notes on the registry!

  • I think it would be strange to register for anything that has a sole purpose of being used for the wedding.  Things like champagne flutes don't strike me as odd unless the couple plans to use them at the wedding and never again, and I doubt things like that would end up being used at the wedding unless they were a shower gift or otherwise given prior to the wedding.
  • Ok, I'm not putting it on the registry. It's unanimous :) I'm very new to all this...Thanks!
