What kind of shampoo/conditioner do you use?

I was using expensive stuff from salons or Sephora, but I have switched to drug store brands in an effort to save extra money.  I was liking the Dove brand for a while but I just switched it up to John Frieda's Frizz ease shampoo and conditioner and I absolutely LOVE it!  The price isn't too bad, recently it was on sale for 6 dollars at CVS and I had a 1$ coupon for it.

What do you like to use and why?

  • Tresemme.  Low cost and high quality = great!
  • I use Head and Shoulders shampoo for dry scalp and Tresseme conditioner. I love Tresseme, it always leaves my hair feeling really soft.

Every time I run out I switch to a different brand. Apparently hair can get used to one type so you're best off mixin it up
So, maybe things don't always go as planned... Maybe that's okay. I may be alone for now, but my baby boy is on his way, and I wouldn't change a thing.
  • I don't go to Sephora for anything...  I'm not sure what to do with a lot of stuff in there.  Haha.

I use Herbal Essences either "None of your Frizziness" or "Long Term Relationship."  Many shampoos and conditioners tends to make my hair static-y, but those two are great.
  • I usually buy my shampoo and conditioner once or twice a year at the liter sale at Ulta. That, plus a coupon in the mailer is the same price as a drug store.
It also helps to save money if you only wash your hair every 2 days (3 in the winter). Yes, I know this is shameful.

I use an herbal conditioner from the health food store to wash my scalp and condition my hair.  I went sulfate-free awhile back and it made a huge difference for my dry, curly hair.

Absolutely.  Too much shampooing just dries out your hair.

  • I am trying to get on the sulfate-free bandwagon too. It really is so much better for your hair, it just takes some getting used to. Right now I use Trader Joe's Tea Tree Tingle and Ouidad for my shampoo/conditioner. Neither are 100% sulfate free, but have little. I tried Wen, but it's just too expensive since it seems like there's no way to do it without automatic renewal.

I only wash my hair every 3 days because I have oily curly hair. If I wash it too often, it gets really frizzy and overly oily.
  • Dove. Everything else makes me break out.

  • I currently use the Dove 2-in-1 shampoo and conditioner and love it.  For years, though, I used Pantene ProV 2-in-1 but I am not sure what they did to it but it just seemed to get extremely liquidy and would not develop a lather no matter how much I used.

  • I use Biolage Color Protection shampoo as well as Biolage conditioner. I've used them for years and never had an issue, so I keep using them!

</div><div>This is what I do, except at a different store that's like Ulta called Beauty Brands.  It's in my hometown, so if I happen to make it to their store around that time then I stock up (which their liters are a flat $11.99 for everything, whereas Ulta tiers the prices based on the brand.)  This year 6 liters (2 shampoo, 4 conditioner) lasted me the whole year.  I buy Redken Blonde Glam and the color conditioner, and they are wonderful.  I've noticed that for me my hair stays a lot cleaner and I can go longer between washes when I use the salon brands.

  • John Frieda. It comes in a blue squeeze bottle and is for fine hair. I forget what it's called. I also buy it only when it's on sale :)

Otherwise, I don't mind Herbal Essences. I don't like to use it long term, but one bottle here and there is OK. It definitely smells fantastic!

  • I use Herbal shampoo and conditioner. Its cheap, smells great, and leaves my hair really soft. I always get compliments on it when I go to the hairdresser and when I tell them I use Herbal they cant believe a cheap shampoo works well. So no you dont have to spend any more than $2.50 on your shampoo and have it work great.
  • I've been using Dove but I've been watching those Wen informercials.  Has anyone tried any of the Wen products?

If you do a forum search you'll see lots of threads, particularly on the Wedding Beauty board about it. The general consensus seems to be that it's good, works well, but is pricey. As I mentioned in my post above, there seems to be no way to buy it without an automatic replacement program that will send you a new bottle every x months and also charge your card automatically.

I have been using John Frieda Frizz Ease and Garnier Sleek and Shine lately, since it's getting warmer and more humid.  My thick, straight hair gets the frizz in humidity and it's miserable.  I like the Dove and Pantene products but they don't work as well to control frizz in the warmer, more humid weather.
I did just pick up Nexxus Frizz Defy and so far I like it-it smells amazing.  It says it has Moroccan Argon oil and Coconut oil, but it smells like shea butter, which I love.  I combat the frizz with other things too, but this seems to work at least as well as JF Frizz Ease.
The issue I have with shampoos/conditioners is that it seems like most of the frizz products are for those with dry frizz.  I have humidity frizz, and nothing seems to help on its own.  Right now in my hair (after the Nexxus shampoo/conditioner this morning) I have a small dollop of Dove Nourishing Oil Care Leave-In Smoothing Cream, a spritz of John Frieda's Leave-In Conditioning Spray, and a squirt of Paul Mitchell's Super Skinny Relaxing Balm.
Seems like a lot of product for some long straight hair. LOL  It's working so far, but I'm not spending a lot of time outside in the humid heat today.
  • I use whatever happens to be on sale when I need more. I always get compliments from my stylist on how heallthy my hair is, and I get color every 6 weeks.
  • Over the years I've used just about every major brand there is, but I've converted to solid shampoo and conditioner from LUSH.  Pricier, yes, but after I tried it my complexion improved by leaps and bounds, so it's worth the extra cost to me.  Right now I'm using Karma Komba solid shampoo and Jungle solid conditioner.  They smell amazing AND they don't have to fit in the 1-quart Ziploc when traveling, since they're solid.

Find your closest Aveda salon and pick up their Brilliant Spray, Smooth Infusion Glossy Straightener and the Light Elements Smoothing Fluid. I have waist length straightened hair that is naturally curly and goes nuts in humidity.  I only have to buy these products about three or four times a year.  Your hair stays straight for 4-5 days.  You seriously don't have to do anything to it until it gets dirty again and you have to wash it.

Spray on the Brilliant before combing out.

Put on a small dab of the Smooth Infusion before towel drying or blow drying.

Add the Light Elements to the bottom few inches of your hair before flat ironing.

  • I've been using sulfate-free brands for a little over a year now, and it's definitely been way kinder to my hair. I go back and forth between the Ever Strong line that Loreal puts out and the Tea Tree Mint from Organix ... basically, I buy whichever one is cheaper when I go shopping for it, both have been good to me.

GoodLuck Bear, thanks for the rec!  Being in the same region, you can understand the environmental factors.
I currently wash my hair every day, b/c if I don't, my hair gets oily. I don't put any conditioner up on my scalp or anything, but it still happens even if I don't have product in my hair.  I might go through it a bit faster than you, but I will definitely give that stuff a shot!
  • I use the Herbal Essence "None of you frizzness"
My sister used to tell me that shampoo was actually bad for your air and didnt help, it just smelt nice. But i have to say it works! This shampoo makes my hair really smooth. Usually in this hot weather (yes, its hot in canada) my hair gets super frizzy but it has looked great with this shampoo, and ill actually leave it down now

  • i use herbal essence hydrolicious i think? It's the purple one. It's almost always on sale, especially if you buy the shampoo and conditioner together. It's not my favorite but Beau said he loves the smell so I'm having a hard time bringing myself to change it lol

  • Love me some Moroccan Oil shampoo and conditioner. I switch back and forth between that and  Brocato Cloud Nine Miracle something-or-other line, too.

I have my hair colored religiously so do what I can to maintain. Ugh, LOTS of gray growing out of this 41-year-old noggin! Annoying!

<div>I love LUSH, my favorite solid shampoo is "What's New Pussycat?", mmmmm cinnamon-y. I'm actually in love with LUSH "Big" shampoo, my only problem with it is that I have colored hair (red, no less) and, while it gives me great volume I can't use it every time I shampoo without stripping color. Their "Veganese" conditioner is also great. </div><div>

I switch shampoos often.  Not sure why - just like to try out different ones.  Haven't found a shampoo/conditioner that I LOVE yet.

Right now, I'm using NIoxin in an attempt to help my fine/thin hair.  After about a month, I haven't really noticed much of a difference.

I tried Veganese--was actually using it with I Love Juicy--and my scalp and face did not approve.  Broke out something fierce and my scalp felt really oily all the time.  I think it's stilla good product, just not for me!

Scent wise, my favorite of the solids is Godiva--looooove the jasmine.  My actual hair prefers the Karma, though, so I compromise by using Lust soap. :)
