Re: Makeup Recommendations and Raves

  • I love Mary Kay's mineral powder. I know that a lot of people here don't like MK products, but that is one that I really like. Oh, and their highlighter is good, too.
  • I have been using Target's Up & Up brand of facial moisturizer and make up remover cloths and have been really surprisingly pleased by them. I bought them at a point that I just didn't have the spare cash for my usual brand and I've stuck with them. I've tried several other Up & Up products since (not just make up) and have not been disappointed yet.
On bed rest since Groundhog's Day and every day since has been exactly the same.

    MAC makeup, hands down.

Paul Mitchell Tea Tree shampoo, the hydrating one with lavender, is amazing.

I'm really digging pomegranate body wash right now.  I have some normal ole store brand, Dial I think, but the fragrance is really good!

  • Estee Lauder foundation and mousturizer. They're pricy, but totally worth it to me. Love both, and they don't make me break out at all. Sadly I've got to throw out both and get new cause of my skin stuff right now.

  • I recently got a mascara from target that is amazing.  Its Rimmel...and its like $2, and in a black tube.

I can't remember for the life of me what its called, but I love it!

  • I love love LOVE Bare Minerals.  The foundation-mineral powder stuff?  Oh my goodness.  I could wax poetic for hours about it.  Its completely cleared my skin up too.   LOVE.

I LOVE JemmaKidd Eyeliner pencils.  They're at Target.  Run now.

I need a Sephora-level recommendation for a good blush for really  pale skin.  Everything I try makes me look blotchy.

  • Other products I use and love are Olay's Body Wash with Shea Butter, Bed Head by Tigi for shampoo & conditioner. I use the Dumb Blonde line. It has honestly improved the shine in my hair and it smells wonderful. I've been using it for 2 years now.

For face wash, I use the Mary Kary Miracle set with cleanser, facial vitamins and moisturizer. Their microderm abrasion kit is good, too.

For eye shadows, I love Lancome's stuff, but I hate buying it because it gets pricey.

For lotion, I use a couple, depending on what I want it for. When I'm using lotion after the shower or bath, I use Johnson & Johnson's Softlotion. It doesn't leave an oily residue and keeps me moisturized, which says a lot since I have chronic dry skin.

For my purse and to use on my hands, I usually use B&BW's Japanese Cherry Blossom hand lotion, mostly because it matches my perfume. The seasonally have a Silk Radiance line of lotion that comes in that scent, and next time it comes back, I'm going to stockpile that stuff. I think it could cure cancer or something. It's that outstanding.
  • L'Oreal Telescopic Mascara
Two-Faced (I think that's the name of it - pink tube) primer

    I like Bare Minerals, too.

I'd forgotten I liked the L'Oreal Mineral eyeshadows - the plum purple one.

East, have you tried any of the Bare Minerals blushes? They all go on lighter than they look. And you can put the veil over them to make them lighter, or the clear radiance.

  • I got this stuff from sephora.  I can't remember the name, but if you went in and asked someone about it, I'm sure they'd know.  If your face sweats in the summer like mine does, you'll want it.  It's like hair spray for your face.  You just spray it on, let it dry and voila.  Make up keeps very well.  I used it for a wedding I went to in July.  100F outside, no air conditioning inside a really small old church.  OMG.  It was brutal.  Tip: put your mascara on after.  i put mine on first and as a natural reaction to being sprayed in the face i blinked, the spray had made my mascara wet and i got mascara marks.

  • Ditto Missy on the blush and mineral veil.  I wear Vintage Peach.  It seems like it would be universally flattering.

Cover Girl, the one in the purple tube.
  • I HAVE A QUESTION!

Has anyone tried the Dior Spray Foundation? It's a moisturizing foundation so it's really light, but I spent 70 bucks on that and it's crap. Am I doing it wrong? I'm thinking I'll just stick with Clinique.

    It's this:

  • East - I'm super pale too (I use BM Fairly Light), and I love Laura Geller Ethereal Rose. It's like a big swirly baked blush, but is silky and sheer and has glints of lightness here and there so there's no flat matte effect. You can layer it on for more color. They used to have it in a few shades too for different complexions, but I haven't seen it lately. You might be able to find it online at Sephora.com.

I think I know what you are talking about.  Is it a clear bottle with a black pump?  I think it's by Makeup Forever.

I like the LORAC brand a lot - they sell it at Sephora. Great foundation and cover-up. And I love Dior mascara. Every other mascara I have tried clumps. This one doesn't.

  • The new Loreal cleanser (with the scrublet!) is really nice.  It makes my skin really soft and breakout free without making it dry.  And the scrublet is really fun.  I'm all about that right now.

I am just trying a new mascara - by lise watier.  Not sure I like the brush, but I will stick it out and keep going.  I usually buy mac mascara.

Yep, I just looked, I didn't realize they had two that came in purple tubes.  I use the waterproof version and really like it.  It doesn't go on clumpy or get all flakey during the day.

Ooh, I love this too! I think the scrublet makes all the difference, and makes my other face wash (Purity by Philosophy) work much better. I alternate the face wash because the L'oreal one tends to dry my skin. It seems kinda like dish soap, but cleans deep for sure.

  • Heels - and whomever else.

I love the Photo Finish primer too.  This sounds weird, but have you heard of using Monistat chafing gel instead?  It has almost the same ingredients and I think it works just as well (and it's about $7)

Photo finish ingredients: Cyclomethicone, Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Isopropylparaben, Retinyl Palmitate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Ascorbic Acid, Carthamus Tinctorium (Safflower) Seed Oil, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Extract, Cola Acuminata Seed Extract, Propylene Glycol, Camellia Oleifera Leaf Extract, Isobutylparaben, Butylparaben, Water.

Chafing gel ingredients: Cyclopentasiloxane, Dimethicone, Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Trisiloxane, Dimethicone/Vinyldimethicone Crosspolymer, Silica
  • Question:

Does Bare Minerals provide good coverage?  I've always wanted to try it but have a hard time switching from a liquid foundation to a powder.  I don't have oily or acne prone skin, mainly just uneven skin and redness along with some acne scars on my chin.
  • edited May 2010
I don't know about everyone else, but just for me I think bare minerals provides really good coverage for general problems (like evening out blotchiness or ruddiness) but not for specific detailed problems (like a big red pimple).  Does that make any sense?  I just use a seperate concealer if I get a zit or if the spots right under my nostils are especially red.

  • Hmm, maybe I'll try it then.  I have heard good things about it clearing up skin and working well for so many people.  Sounds like it would be the right amount of coverage too.
  • edited May 2010
Andress, for marks and such you can also spot cover with a lighter shade of BM and then cover with the regular shade (usually you'll get two shades in a starter kit), but the problem I run into is that it doesn't really stay on all day over the spots. But a good concealer will blend underneath it pretty well. I use Smashbox High Definition Concealer.

  • Pirate, that's an awesome tip!  I will have to check that out.

Re: Bare Minerals coverage, it's good for evening out skin tone, and with the concealer brush it does a decent job of covering up blemishes, but I still wear liquid foundation underneath it if I feel like I need it, for example, if I'm in a wedding and know I'll be having my picture taken all day.

  • I love the warmth in the BM kit.  That stuff is a life saver after a late night when your skin is drained of all signs of life.

  • Well thanks guys, I think I'll pick some up this weekend since I'll be near a store.
  • My two must-haves:

Maybelline Superstay lipstick - this stuff does not come off until you take it off with remover. I've tried several different long wear lipsticks and this one is the best by far.

Maybelline Lash Stiletto mascara - long lashes and no clumps or smears.

I make my own face powder with stuff that I buy on coastalscents.com

I only wear powder, lipstick and mascara so I can't really recommend anything else.
