Sunday Evening!

Re: Sunday Evening!

  • Hey there, I didn't realize there was a nigh thread. I kind of got distracted by the stupidity above.

Anyway, we spent all day in the car. We went to visit SIL and her family. They're two hours away down where we used to live. It took us almost 4 hours to get home because it's been raining non-stop all day, and I-95 is the dumbest highway ever. Accidents everywhere, traffic backed up for miles. It wasn't pretty,

  • MK - I'm sure the idiocy in the seating thread was just a perfect cap to your day : p

Ugh, a 2 hour drive took 4? That's the worst. I can't stand traffic. I can deal with a 4 hour drive that's supposed to take 4 hours, but I can't take sitting on traffic long enough to double my travel time.

  • Yeah angel and I'm a road rager (it's bad I know). I get so upset just sitting there, and sitting there, and sitting there...you get the point.
    image
  • My FI gets frustrated with my road rage. Whenever he's in town, he never lets me drive. He says I'm going to give myself a stroke.
  • Yeah, I can be pretty bad too. I get especially angry when the person in front of me is going under the speed limit and therefore forcing me to do the same.

  • I finally just pulled over to eat when we still had an "hour" (really 1.5-2 hours) left because I couldn't take it. H drove after that.

I live outside of Atlanta. FI and I had to drop my grandparents off at the airport, and it was JUST before rush hour so we knew that we'd be stuck in that ick going home. So we went to World of Coke just to avoid it. Best decision ever : p

ETA - Even though I have lived near Atlanta almost my entire life, I'd never been and neither had he. We both wanted to go anyways. So it wasn't just a random choice XP
  • I'm sure it feels good to finally be home. I can't wait to get home and put on my pajamas, but I don't want to leave FI. I can't wait until we finally live together. It probably won't be until December.

Angel - do you guys not live together for religious reasons or because of something else?

  • Financial reasons. He's finishing up law school and I can't support us both on my nanny salary so it makes more sense for us to live at home until he gets a job. Plus, I save a ton of money living at home, so I'm going to build up my savings as long as I can, so we'll probably wait until right before the wedding.

  • I'm off to bed.  MK, sorry for being a hard-ass in that thread.  I agree with everything you said, but the stupid TK TOC puts you in the wrong and that poster in the right.  I hate it too.
  • Oh okay, that makes sense. I hope you guys get to co-habitate ASAP : )

I don't live with my FI because he's in England and I'm here in the states. I would imagine it would be agonizing to be so close and still not be able to live together. But it will probably make it even more special after the wedding when you can go home to YOUR OWN PLACE lol. I know I'm looking forward to it when I move.
  • I know Mica. I was actually willing to get banned over it. That's how pissed off us was at her stupidity.

  • I know.  But I like you and don't want you banned.
  • Hiya all! I got internet and cable today!!  And a new air mattress to use as a bed until H gets time off to move our stuff.  I woke up 3 times last night on the floor and had to refill our old one.  We let MIL borrow it.  Ugh.
    Good night Mica!
  • Yay! Loopy is out of her hotel room! How is the new apartment?
  • Ahh, I don't know if I could handle being in separate countries! How did you guys meet? Is he from the states? Hi Loopy! I hope you can get your real bed soon, air mattresses suck for long term use.

<div>Oooh, are you moving over there? Neat =D I moved from Canada to the US for H, and I know it was one of the best feelings in the world crossing the border. I was just so happy to actually be able to see him every day.</div>
  • Loopy that's how our air mattress is. I almost just want to start out sleeping on the floor since I know I'll end up there anyway.

  • I can't wait to have full time living with J. Another 8 months and LDR is over yaaaay.

  • We met online in a chatroom actually. We weren't looking for a relationship, but we ended up really liking eachother and it just grew from there. We've been together for 7 years in July - so I guess we did something right : p

Any - I feel like moving from the US to England would be similar to moving from Canada to the US. Things are the same but different - right?

<div>Yay!! It doesn't matter who you are, LDRs suck lol. But it's so worth it : )</div>
  • Wow, 7 years long distance is a long time... I'm sure it will be amazing to finally be in the same place all the time! Night, MK!

  • The apartment is good.  I found the mailboxes today.  And went to Ikea for cheap kitchen stuff.  PSA - a can opener for $1.49 doesn't work worth a damn.  it's in the garbage already and I will buy a better one tomorrow somewhere.
H should get time off starting 5/6 so he's got a ticket booked to fly home, and then it will take him a day to pack up and two days to drive, so that Wednesday or Thursday I should have furniture again.
Tomorrow I start my new job.  I'm a little nervous.  Not really excited.  iI's actually a step back about 5 years for me, and a pay cut in hourly wage by about 30%, plus I went from full time to part time... but it's an interesting industry, medical is big out here, and it will give me the flexibility to have more time off when H is home.  And there's a really good chance the hours will grow into full time in the next year or two... but even at 40 hours, it's a pretty big pay cut. :(

<div>Yeah, the longest time we've been together is 3 months. I think after the first few months of living there I will start feeling wierd that there is no looming flight date.</div>

<div>Yeah, it's a bunch of little things that really are different. I imagine it'll probably be a little more pronounced going from the US to England (I know half the reason H wanted me to move here instead of going to Canada was the thought of paying that much in taxes made him want to pass out, lol)But I won't lie, those little things, for me at least, were rough for a couple of months after they all started to pile up. But he's worth it, so you adjust and then everything starts getting awesome again =D </div>
  • I'm sorry to hear about your pay cut Loopy : (

But yay on getting furnature soon! I love Ikea - but I guess not everything is worth the money. I love their cheap non-stick pans. Like $4 or something. It's great!
