XP: What to expect at a floral consultation?

My mom and I are going to two floral consultations on Friday and I'm a little nervous.  I don't really know what to expect!  I am planning on bringing in some pictures of flowers I like.  Should I have a list of what I need?  I guess I just don't know what all they expect from me and what kind of information I'm going to get in terms of flowers and pricing.

Any insight from ladies who have already done this?

Don't be nervous.  I am sure the florists have done a bazillion of these so they pretty much will guide you through your consult.  I would be upfront about your budget so that the florist will be able to direct you in the right direction.  Pictures of what you like and also your color scheme is very important.  Having an idea of what you will need is a good idea as well.

At the end of the consult the florist should be able to give you an estimated quote...if they don't or say they won't then don't use them.

A good florist should be able to take your ideas and expand on them and also be able to tell you what flowers would work the best as well as let you know if any flowers that you may want are in or out of season (which will affect the price dramatically).

Finally, with whatever florist you go with have a little trust that they know what they are doing...don't try to micromanage because they are the professional you are not.  I know with my florist and told her flowers that I really like and the color scheme which I was using.  We decided on the type of centerpieces and ceremony decor but from there it was all her.  It was nice to go into my venue the day of the wedding and see what she had done...letting them use their creativity is always a positive because the arrangements become more interesting then just the basic cookie cutter centerpieces and bouquets.

Relax... what you need to do is let Her know who you are and what you like... Take photos of things you like if you can.
Also if you have an idea of budget that will help her guide you in the right direction.

I diasgree with the former p[ost that says she needs togive you an estimate on the spot... That could take a few more days to break down and get it right...

Basically though..look for a florist you relate to and feel good about... make friends and you will have better results.

No way will you get a quote at the consult.  All 3 of mine took a few days at least.  I interviewed 3 florists and took my inspiration pictures and a color swatch, and just basically discussed my vision.  I agree with the PP--I picked the florist that seemed to understand my vision the best and whom I related to the most.

I am a florist and I always appreciate when clients come prepared.  Have an idea of what color schemes and styles you like to point them in the right direction.  Also, it helps to have an idea of what your reception space will look like and how it will be set up, so that you can decide on floral accents!

I worked at a florist for 8 years and the owner was able to give an estimate at the end of the consultation.  Maybe she was the exception to the rule...
