Three rings?

Today at work I saw a woman who had three rings.  Her wedding band on the inside, her engagement ring in the middle, and another ring.  I've never seen three rings before, and it made me wonder.

What is the thrird ring for?  Does it symbolize an important anniversary or something? Because I can't see a jeweler having the same design of ring years and years later.

    Were the wedding band and other ring different? It could just be a two ring enhancers. There's a special name for it but I don't know it. I tried a few on with my ring (it sort of sets in between the two rings which are actually one ring with space in between), but I didn't like them.

    If not, then it was probably just a anniversary ring or something. I have a friend who got a pretty big engagement ring, a pretty band, and then for some anniversary her husband got her another ridiculous rock and she wears them all on the same finger.

    Having two bands is very common. I see it all the time. I plan on having two identical diamond bands - one on each side of my e-ring. I like the way it looks.

    Like a PP said, it is very common to have two bands.  Some girls want to bands because they want some extra bling while others prefer two bands because it looks better then just the one.  Right now I have one band but I really want the second band because I just like the look...maybe I will get lucky and receive it as an anniversary gift this July!

    In the UK this third ring is known as an "eternity" ring and is quite common, normally its bought for an anniversary, no particular one eg 10 years etc, I think just when the couple feel its right.
