Florida-South Florida

UGH now what....

I just got an email today from the Catering Manager/Primary contact at our venue/hotel (Wyndham garden hotel, Boca) letting me know that her last day was Friday and she took another position somewhere else... I am so upset as she was much of the reason for us choosing the venue that we did. Is there anything special that I should do? Not to mention I am getting married in Florida and live in Boston.. :( So I'm not even nearby... ugh just so bummed.

  • Definitely contact the venue directly and find out who will be the replacement Catering Manager, and begin establishing a relationship with them. If they aren't good about contacting you promptly, or if you don't feel confident in the venue/the replacement at this point, you may have to seriously condier switching venues.
You're far enough out, that you could reasonably choose to switch to a different venue, and since May is off-season for Florida, you can probably still find a nice venue. However, it sounds like you'd have to really search from Boston, so I don't know if that's something you actually want to do.
If you only went with the venue because of this woman, it sounds like you probably won't be comfortable continuing to work with them, and switching venues could be your best option. Did she give you any indication as to why she is leaving? If it's simply because she'll be in a better position you can probably still work with the Wyndam. If it sounded at all like it was any other reason, I'd be a bit nervous about still working with them, because there could be problems in the management/ownership that could trickle down by the time of your wedding. I don't want to scare you, but it's better to be careful and thorough than regret staying there for any reason (no matter how small).
Do you still like the venue itself well-enough to want to get married there? Or was this woman the primary reason you went ahead with this place? If it's the latter, then you should sit down with your FI and have a serious talk about finding a new venue ASAP, because you will probably start to question if you should stick with them over time- and you don't want to make the decision to switch too late to do so. Anything else we can help with?
  • If you really picked your venue ONLY on the catering manager, then you pocked the wrong venue to begin with. If you put down a deposit, you aren't going to get it back simply because an employee is no longer there. You didnt hire that particular person, you hired the venue. You should certainly get in touch with the place and contact her replacement, but you signed with Wyndham, not that manager.
