Most memorable Olympic moment

What was your most favorite Olympic moment?
Least favorite? (Aside from the death - we all know that was tragic)

Bonus for those who post a video link! (Not of the death though, we've all seen it)

Re: Most memorable Olympic moment

  • In general:

I'll never forget how gracious, giddy, and generally happy Evan Lysacek was when he won his gold medal. I'm thinking I should print out a picture of him winning and look at it every time I feel sad or discouraged.

    Closer to home:

Boy, was it special to see three very young friends of FI's on the medal podium (oh, and Chad Hedrick, I suppose).

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: Most memorable Olympic moment : Yep, Plushenko acting like a big butthurt baby was pretty high up there for me too. And I came into it as a fan of his but he really acted like a sore loser.

  • Fav moment-Probably when Evan found out he won gold.
Most touching- Canadian figure skater Joannie Rochette winning bronze or her 1st skate.
Least Fav- I wanted USA to win the hockey today but I am a huge Brodeur fan so I was happy for him (even though he didn't play)

  • This was my most touching moment. I couldn't find a photo of her kissing to the heavens but her whole story was so sad and touching. You couldn't NOT root for her. I teared up when she was talking to reporters about how she always dreamed with her mom to make it to the Olympics.

The worst/most entertaining was Plushenko and his "platinum" medal. What a joke. And how embarrassing not only for you, but for your country too.

Best: The US walking in at the opening ceremonies and hearing the US national anthem played each time we won a gold. :) Shaun White's last run on the halfpipe. When that Chinese figure skating pair won gold - they had come out of retirement just to go for gold, and they got it!

Worst: Plushenko being an asshat, Lindsay Vonn falling/DQing over and over (she only finished 2 of the 5 races she was in.)

Stina - That skater's story touched me too. I was crying at the end of her short program.

  • I agree with ggmae's too. The chinese pairs team deserved that win so much. I also liked the second place team. Their song choice (Man of La Mancha) was fantastic!

YUCK! least favourite moment - nickleback. Blech indeed. I actually did love the mapleleaf thing with gigantic everything all over the place.

Edit: 2nd least favourite moment - avril lavigne. Double yuck.

Alanis's rack is killing me, she looks so good!! I want that necklace and that dress.

Simple plan though? Wtf... seriously. Are we showcasing all of (most of) the most mediocre canadian bands or something?

Plushenko and/orhis people updated his official web site that he won the "Platinum" medal in Vancouver LOL. <a href="http://blog.zap2it.com/thedishrag/2010/02/olympian-evgeni-plushenko-awards-himself-platinum-medal.html" rel="nofollow">http://blog.zap2it.com/thedishrag/2010/02/olympian-evgeni-plushenko-awards-himself-platinum-medal.html</a>

And there was a lot of BAWWWWWing on his part in the media (and by others on his behalf too actually) that Lysacek doesn't do a quadruple jump, he's setting the sport back by not having a challenging enough routine, etc. but the fact was that Plushy didn't land his jumps cleanly AT ALL and Lysacek did, and under the new scoring system if you do your jumps and technical elements throughout your routine, as opposed to completely front-loading it you get more points. Blah blah. It's just really ridiculous and just makes all parties involved look foolish imo.

I'll leave you all with some hawt pictures of Evan Lysacek that I meant to post in the olympics crush thread yesterday but forgot about ;)

  • Olympic women's hockey is pretty boring until the gold medal game, but when the Canadians beat Slovakia 18-0, the crowd gave the Slovakian goaltender a standing ovation and she said it was the best moment of her life and that she'd never played better.

Uhm, someone might ask, you let 18 goals by?

    She made 62 saves. That's...amazing. (possibly 65? I can't remember exactly.)

The game tonight was pretty good, too. Perhaps the best game I've ever seen.

  • I didn't watch much of the Olympics until the figure skating came on, so my choice will be skewed. But I really enjoyed seeing Kim Yu-Na win for South Korea. You could just feel the weight of her country's hopes on her shoulders, but also supporting her. She was wonderful and very poised.
