So my husband and I were not born and raised in the same state, nor is our entire family still residing in the same 5 mile radius for their entire lives. Since any family member I am close to, and all of my close long term friends all live in different states, any place I chose would have been a destination wedding.

Oh, and we paid for it ourselves since we are adults.

me personally I'm having a destination wedding to make it easier on everyone in my family and not make it seem like I'm favoring one side over the other (oh the wonders of being brought up by divorced parents...double gifts, double b-day parties, 2 christmas's....and a whole lotta drama cause mom hates biodad and his side of the family and vice versa). plus momma apparently favors my stepdad's side of the family over hers....I picked a center location where it's equal driving time for everyone (save one random aunt and uncle who live in BFE on top of a mountain). She wants it in my home town which puts her side of the family driving twice as long as my idea so good thing I'm paying! and YAY found my dress and get to get it even though it's $300 over budget! I love my stepdaddy. He took one look at my eyes when I showed him the picture and said go get it I'll pay the difference. Did I say I LOVE my stepdaddy?

Many families are already spread across the board. It will almost always be a destination for someone. You should follow your heart as well as your wallet. If you want to get married on the beach and you live in Kansas, why should you be tied to the place where you get your mail?

My husband is from England. I'm from Canada. We met in Japan.

No matter where we got married, it was going to be long distance for someone. Personally, I love DWs. I get a chance to travel. If you don't want to go, don't. Odds are the bride and groom won't miss you at all.
