Wedding Party

Why can't people butt out!!!!!

I have come to the conclusion that planning a wedding is harder than I thought. I am having my wedding at a Church and the Reception but only one problem NO Alcohol allowed. Why do people have to make a big deal over this.

Re: Why can't people butt out!!!!!

  • In this instance, it's about the social circles.

In my family and in DH's family, adults are offered alcohol for every event from a child's birthday party to a bachelor party.  To not offer it would get you sideways looks.

You're OK to have a dry reception.  However if this goes against the social norms for your family and your FI's family then you have to understand that they may find this to be a bit offensive.

  • It is absolutely fine to have a dry reception. Our reception will be dry, due to the rules at the place we are holding the reception. It's your choice. You don't HAVE to provide alcohol, just like you don't HAVE to serve Kobe beef on fine china. However, it is nice to provide a little alcohol as a way to thank your guests for being there. (But if the rules of the hall nix the alcohol, then that's the way it is).
  • Don't tell people you aren't serving alcohol.  It's perfectly ok to have a dry reception.
  • My friend had the same situation when she got married.  The reception was in the church, so no alcohol.  It wasn't my favourite thing in the world, but I certainly never would have complained to her about it.

People can't complain to you if you don't talk about it with them.  So don't.
