IPod DJ?

Hi guys,
We are considering using Colorblind Productions as our DJ for our wedding and I saw that they have a IPOD DJ Package where they're still there to set up the sound system & MC but all the music is played through the couple's IPod.

What are your thoughts on that?

    to much effort... you don't want to have to deal with changing music, pausing, etc.

    There would still be a DJ there to run the whole thing... I'm just curious if anyone has seen this at a wedding... and if I'm crazy, lol.

    Then wants the point, if they are still there they still have music, why bother bringing yours?..

    They don't bring their own music. They set up the sound system, they act as the MC but they use your ipod.

    Personally if I'm paying a DJ he better be playing music off something other than MY IPod..  If you want to use an Ipod why not ask a friend to act as MC.

    Djs become djs for a reason.  They know music and they know how to work a crowd.  They can tell when people react to certain songs and what gets everyone up.  If it doesn't get everyone up, then they switch songs or genres.  What if all your music doesn't get people dancing at your wedding?  The great thing about a dj is that they have SO much and most can get songs right then if needed.  I know on my ipod for instance a lot of songs aren't even listed by the artist or song and they're hard to find at times.

    I just don't think it's a risk you should take to save a few hundred dollars.

    I'd avoid it......  ipod dj's are for house parties, maybe dinner parties or sweet 16's.....NOT WEDDINGS.

    I think the concept is great for couples who have a different taste in music and want it played at your wedding. If you are a Van Halen fan or Grateful Dead fan this is the way to go. But if he's still going to play all the standard wedding songs than I don't see the point.

    Maybe you can do an iPod during the cocktail hour to minimize the amount of time the DJ is actually DJing (ie. take it from 5 hours to 4) -- it's what I'm doing.  You might be able to negotiate a lower price based on that.  But I agree with the rest o the girls that you should have someone with experience man the DJ table because then you can count on their expertise.  I don't think you're going to enjoy yourself as much if you have to worry about what song will be next, or whether your guests like the music and it makes them feel like dancing, or if there is a technical malfunction.  

    My advice -- do as much as possible to ensure that you don't have to micromanage any part of your wedding the day of.  You're spending a significant amount of money and you'll want to enjoy every minute.
