A post on dog poo

We are really good about picking up our dog poo, because it's unsanity and gross to leave it in the yard. You can imagine my "happiness" when I go outside and discover (or rather Katie discovered) a little pile of poo on the front of the property by the road. Ok whatever, it happens. We walk to the mailbox and there's another pile of poo...in the middle of our driveway next to the road. Seriously? Whothefuck doesn't pick up when their dog shiits in someone's driveway!?

As dorky and passive aggressive as it seems I'm thinking of getting one of those "Don't pee, don't poop" signs to put up on the edge of the property by the road. Any other ideas for getting people to not just leave their crap in my yard/driveway?

Re: A post on dog poo

  • Set up cameras and then return it to them imo.
  • My mom's neighbors walk their rottweiler over into my mom's back yard and let her poop there.  So before my mom mows, she shovels the poop back over into her neighbors' yard.  I guess this isn't really a solution to your problem; I just felt like sharing. :)

  • Is there a law about people having to pick up their dog's poop?  In my city it is illegal to leave your pet's poop on anyone else's property or public property (like sidewalk areas).

That's really sad that people are that inconsiderate.

  • I would get a big Beward Of Dog Sign to discourage people from being on your property.

But, we did that and someone stole our sign. Apparently, they weren't intimidated.

  • I'm pretty sure VA has a poop law, at least it does around commercial areas. Because of our HOA rules we can't even put up a fence or something, ugh.
I don't know who it is doing it either. It's not any of our neighbors I don't think because they all have fences or only walk their dogs on leashes.

In the city I used to live in there was a woman in my neighborhood who had these MASSIVE horse/golden retrievers. They were massive. She was walking them one day and one of them took a dump on the sidewalk and she kept walking and I swear to god it was the biggest poo ive ever seen come out of a dog.

People like that are the reason I only look at the ground when I walk.

haha our friends just moved into our apartment buildling.  They also have a MASSIVE Golden Retreiver.  I was talking to the female half of the couple and she was joking that she has to use both hands to pick up the poop.  I was crying from laughing to hard listening to her explain it.

But back to the original question- we have the same issue.  We always always always clean up our dog's poop (we're in an apartment; it's all shared lawn space!)  A new pitbull mix just moved in an all of a sudden there is poop everywhere.  It drives me crazy.  We know it's them, too, because it's  way too small to be the Golden Retriever, and way too big to be the dachshunds (the only other dog in the building.)
  • Man, people really blow. That's so rude and inconsiderate. I agree about putting up a camera, then returning the poop.

My stepdad caught the guy who was letting his dog crap in their yard and proceeded to ream him a new one right then and there, apparently he almost made the guy cry. My stepdad can be scary when he wants to be, though normally he's a big teddy bear.

Thank you! The other day I commented how this was obviously not our neighbors dog, and my mom thought I was nuts. It's way too small to be Katie poop, and then neighbors have labs so it's too small to be labs as well. It's definitely dogs under 30 pound poop.
  • Oh and I forgot to say. One of H's customers has 8 dogs--2 beagles and 6 labs (last I ehard, anyway)--and they never pick up poop. So we're talking about an acre of dog poop. Man, I HATED working in that yard,. You were guaranteed to step in it.

Now, I realize that it is his yard and property so he doesn't have to pick it up, but when you have regular yard guys coming a couple times a week, come on. At least make an attempt.
  • We live on a corner which = extra frontage for jerks leaving poop.  I would love to put up a sign that says "I don't poop on your lawn, so don't leave poop on my lawn".

    Some people suck.

We'll just not tell H about this little fact, m'kay?

  • Eww Sesh. I'm sure the dogs don't appreciate that either.

  • I actually found my serial sidewalk pooper the other day....this lady was walking with her dog and it started to poo in my yard (no big deal if you clean it up) and she litterally DRAGGED her dog leaving smudges on the sidewalk...the dog poo'd in the little area between the side walk and road and they ran across the street.

I was FURIOUS the lady yanked her little dog like that...it's nature dogs have to poo and better outside than inside, seriously...

So I ran outside with a poop bag and said - excuse me your forgot something (there were other neighbors with their dogs on the other corner talking) and she was like "Oh I'll get that when I come back"...

::eye roll:: yeah right (sorry I judge one her behavior and cussing at the dog and dragging it when it was trying to potty, then trying to run away from it)

So armed with bags I was like oh it's ok I always have extra bags here you go...and gave her one.

She was PISSED she had to go pick up the poo, but seriously, it's all part of having a dog!  The other people thankfully said I was very classy in how I handled it and they wouldn't have been offended...

On the upside there was a mom waling a dog with her sons and the dog pooped more than they had bags, but they actually knocked on the door to see if they could have a shopping bag....so that was a plus.

We have a naighbor that walks her dog on a leash, but it is one of the "lazy man leashes" damn retractable....

she is on her cell and the leash goes out 16' she never pays attention to what her dog is doing and while on leash it poops but she is too engrossed in her conversations to bother to pick it up

  • I took the girls to the dog park yesterday, and this guy had his pi bull/mastiff mix. He had it on a leash (not allowed!) and it was not neutered. It was trying to fuuck all the other dogs. I said, "Oh that will calm down once you get him fixed."  "Oh, we're going to breed him"  Ugh!

  • Sesh that is my bil's yard, well, was, now no more doggy :( G never ever picked up after his Golden and we always told people to be wary of  "Ben bombs" when walking in the yard. They have so much land but never went outside, or let their daughter go outside because of the Ben bombs. They also had "lawn fairies" come once a month to mow and didn't understand why they did a rush job on their yard.
  • In our old apartment, they had the doggy walk. where it had bags etc. but it was on the other side of our apartment. We would always walk our dog over to the other side (unless the weather was awful and she had to go-- ) we had new neighbors who didn't want to walk around the building to let their dogs poop so they put out one of those ropes and let their dogs poop and leave it there.

Well being on the first floor the poop was right in front of our windows/side door. So it was smelly, we finally complained that it was not our dog poop (we have a tiny beagle) and they were out there picking it up the next day. It was awful.. urgh. Don't have a dog if you can't pick up their poop.

She's probably not really talking to anyone.  She just doesn't want to pick up poop.

There's a guy in our neighborhood who use to let his dog poop in the grassy spot right next to my car.  It's an apartment complex, but we have a driveway, so no one else ever parks there because it's our driveway.  I'd have to open the car door and look down before I got out to make sure I wasn't stepping in poop.  After a couple times of "oh, here you go, i've got a bag right here, you won't have to make another trip out here to pick this up" it stopped.

  • We have a pitt/boxer mix and I am always prepared with the doggie bags!  In my area you must pick up after your pet, its the law.  Anyway, my question is this...Casey (our dog) does not like to go if people can see her so she's always ducking into a bush or pulls me into the treeline.  I don't tend to pick up those bombs just because they're hard to get to.  What do you guys think is that wrong?

  • I think it depends on where it is. A  bush in someone's front yard that they are going to be pruning around? Yes. A treeline where people aren't walking or on someone's property, no.

I wouldn't even have cared if it was on a median between a sidewalk or something, but it's very obviously our yard.
  • I know someone who doesn't pick up the poo in the yard all winter, then in spring when it starts to melt the yard is so full of dog poo she has to clean her dog's feet each time it comes inside to get the feces off. Me, personally, I think a little regular scooping with the bag is a hell of a lot easier and less gross than wiping sh*t off my dog's feet several times a day!!!

I've been stuck in the situation where I ran out of bags, but there's a lot of foot traffic in my neighbourhood and I just stand there and ask the next person walking by - every time I've gotten a bag first person I asked.
