Day of Coordinators

Hello All,

I was wondering what people thought of day of wedding coordinators? I assumed I didn't want one, but now I'm second thinking that. My venue has an on-site coordinator, but should I have someone else too?

 Have others had (or are planning to have) an outside day-of-coordinator when you also had a coordinator who works for the venue?

Also, what is the approx. price for a DOC?

    I just had the coordinator at the hall. Over all, everything went fine, but looking back, it would have been nice to have one. My parents had to do a lot after the ceremony (take down decor in the santcuary, go back after the reception to get my stuff left in the room I got ready in, load up the car with my flowers, left over cookies, etc.) Everything got taken care of, but I wish they didn't have to do all of that though. Just my 2 cents!

    I'm just using the on site coord at my venue. They really seem to know what they are doing and am pleased with their work (that I have seen) The Cathedral I'm using also has an on site coord so I figured both would be fine and it was silly for me to spend the extra money on a DOC

    jlbaxter,

      I am considering hiring one also, so keep me updated if you hear anything!  My site has a coordinator, but when discussing it with my mom (who is all for me hiring one) she made a good point that really she coordinates her staff and things going on with the venue.  I'm just thinking it would be nice to have someone make sure escort cards are set up, favors are out, everything arrived looking like it was supposed to etc.  But then I also think I am a very orgainzed person would I be able to let someone else handle all that stuff?  Haha always such a debate.  Keep me updated on your decision!

    daviemb - are you sure that the onsite coord just organizes the staff? At my venue, they include 'personalized planning services with a wedding coordinator.'

    You might want to ask your venue to be sure because mine does everything there possibly is to do. She even told me that I just bring everything to her - paper goods, cookies - basically everything I have and they completely set it up and oversee everything.

    Unfortunately the wedding coordination section on this site is limited and none of the sites offer prices. I did find one planning firm that listed prices on the page. $950 for full day-of and $350 for decoration and set-up. Also offers hourly services.

    gnc22  The coordinator at my site is very hands on and will handle the majority of those things.  We will also be having the ceremony at the reception site which is not common for the venue so I would like someone who has some experience coordinating the ceremony as well as the reception.  Basically someone who I can ask a favor of while everyone is running around.

    I used Jessica Halloway for my DOC. She's really new and really well priced, I think in the $250-350 range for DOC. She was with me for 12 hours and was a HUGE help. I was afraid I wouldn't have enough for her to do, but it is amazing how many little things pop up during your day! If you google Halloway Events her website should come up.

    Thaks so much Lisa! It was a true pleasure helping with your big day! I really love what I do and the wonderful people I get to meet along the way. Day of coordinators are always a good idea. They help with so much more than an onsite coordinator can. A good DOC is with the bride and groom the whole day from the hair appt. to the clean up afterwards. Remember to always check refrences and the experiences of previous clients. A DOC should be considered as part of the wedding budget, not an extra expense. Think about how much you would pay a personal assistant per hour. That's how much a DOC should cost.
