Cake Topper

So I admit, I have been one of those brides buying all sorts of random personalized things for the wedding that I don't need and could have saved a lot of money on - but they'll look cute in pictures! So, I just got a picture of our cake topper, I love it, it's goofy!! It's one of my cats- my first baby, and our dog (but he adopted her while still on his own). The dog was made a boy, but oh well. I'm going to write the date of our wedding on the stand. I don't think this is actually going on the cake, but will be right in front of it.

What kind of cute, personalized things have you bought/made for the wedding, that you didn't need, but just wanted?

The biggest thing for us is also our cake topper. It's going to be super personalized. FI's grandmother is an artist and offered to make us one. I sent her pictures of my hair trial and my dress, so she'll be making it to look like us on the wedding. Beyond that, I won't know what it looks like until I see it.

One of my bridesmaids has offered to make us "mr." and "mrs." signs for the back of our chairs. I dunno if she'll have time (and if not, totally fine by me) but she's very into DIY stuff (her wedding was AMAZING with all the DIY stuff she did) and wanted to do something for us. Then it's little stuff that we personalized that were necessary items as well. FI made a "logo" for our wedding (it looks like a hydrangea blossom) so we're putting that on our favors, it's on our invites and save the dates, and will be going on our menus and programs. Then I think it's gonna make an appearance on our table numbers and escort cards. We're making those as well, so it'll be kind of fun/personal (and about as crafty as either of us can get :P).
  • I think my craziest DIY project is my rose petal lined aisle runner that is 90 feet long.  My mother, FI, friends, and pretty much everyone says I'm crazy to even think about such an undertaking of glueing literally thousands of petals to my aisle runner but it is something that I really want for our wedding.  I think it will look amazing in pictures and really make a statement when people come into the church.

  • LuckyGirl - not sure if you have already considered it or not but if you are going to that much trouble with your aisle runner, have it put down before the ceremony starts so that it gets set straight down the aisle.  The aisle runners that people roll down the aisle right before the bride comes down almost never roll down straight (or completely flat).  When its laying off center and all wrinkled, it looks terrible in photos, and its a tripping hazard!

If you don't want people walking on it you can have them seated from the outside aisles.  I think it sounds really pretty and I bet it will turn out awesome. Very cool project!

  • I purchased our cake topper from crafty eddy who is known on the knot. It is a really delicate "P" in calligraphy. Its beautiful. Its just plain right now so I need to purchased crystals to glue on it.

  • I bought what amounts to about 5 cups of plastic "diamond confetti."  They're 3d sparkly diamonds about the size of a kernel of corn.  I have no idea what I'm going to do with it, but I thought it looked awesome at the time.

Thanks so much! My plan was to have it rolled out before anyone gets there and roping off the end of the aisle so that no one can walk on it.  this is partly why my family thinks I"m crazy since they have never seen anything like that before.  they think its rude of me to block the aisle.  i don't think its a big deal if people have to walk on the outside of the aisle to get to their seats.
