I went into the SS office 2 weeks after we were married and I was afraid there were going to be probs with changing my name because when I got my citizenship certificate(years ago) I had them add my mother's maiden name to my last name and because I have no other paperwork saying so.

SS had to figure out how to get their system to allow me to make my last name my middle name(since I don't have a middle name) anyway it was confusing for them, but today I got my letter saying I should have my new card in 2 weeks!
I'm really sad though not having my last name anymore, but it meant sooo much for DH to have me change my name.

What are you girls planning on doing?

    Congrats!  That is so awesome that they worked that out for you.

    I will be dropping my middle name and keeping my maiden name as my middle name then taking FI last name.

    WOW thats awesome.. I never wanted to change my last name but FI wants me to and I really think I am going to change it..

    I haven't really decided what I want to do, I don't want to lose my middle or last name :( I will probably just change my last name to his and keep my middle name.

    Awww congrats Joanne!!

    I am also dropping my last name altogether. I have waited so long, I hate my last name. Plus I have a brother who **fingers crossed** is going to have a son in June. Let them carry on the last name.

    I really don't want to change my name, mostly 'cause I don't want to go through the hassle, but FI really wants me to. Sooo... I'm dropping my last name altogether and taking his, otherwise my name would be wayyy too long.

    YAY! I kinda know what a pain it must be to deal with the government and all (then again don't we all to a little extent? DMV!), so I'm glad everthing went smoothly!

    yehhhhhhhhh!! that's so exciting!!!!

    I can't wait to say bye-bye to my last name and hello to his! :) Mine is cute but hard to spell. his is beyond easy!!

    Congrats.  I am probably going to be doing the same since FI and his family are pushing for it so much.  Oh well I will not longer have a 9 letter last name and have a 4 letter last name.  So sad!

    Congrats!!

    I'm taking his last name.  My parents want me to hyphenate it since there is only 1 male child on my dad's side to carry on the name.  I think I'll probably pass it  on as a middle name to my own kids. It would have been different had my FI's last name been Butts or something terrible like that....I def. would have kept my name.

    That's awesome!!! I'm keeping my name-it's unique, and my father passed away when I was little, so I feel like it's all I have left of him. FI was ok with it, but I'm dreading telling his parents.  Out of 4 daughter-in-laws, I'm the only one not taking their last name :/

    yay congrats! thats great news.

    I love my last name so im not giving it up lol. it flows to good with my name so ive decided to hyphenate. it will be Laudicina-Funez.
