Re: S/O Dream Registry

  • The one thing that I know I am definitely registering for is this KitchenAid mixer.  I have been lusting after it for the past year.

  • I'll come back to this but I have to say that a kitchen aid mixer would be at the top of my list as well. It would be fun to have all the attachments for it too.

<div>I almost wish I hadn't inherited my mother's Artisan KitchenAide mixer (which was a wedding gift to her!).  Then, I could ask for the raspberry-colored one!!!  Instead, I have a white one from the 80's!</div>
  • I would love a kitchenaid mixer.  I'd would love a nice set of wine glasses.  I love to register for some China too.
Waterford® Ballet Ribbon DinnerwareWaterford Ballet Ribbon Dinnerware, they also have flatware and crystal stemware.
I love a new really thick warm comforter too.

  • These are my top 3 items:

    A Dyson Ball Animal Vacuum

    Hotel Collection Bath Towels

    Henckel Knives

  • Oh I will definitely need to include a Dyson!

<div>Ooh, I haven't seen this color before and I LOVE it. Just this morning I signed a lease on a new apartment with a bigger kitchen, and I told my mom I will finally have enough room for the kitchenAid mixer! She's been wanting to buy me one for a Xmas/Birthday present for a while now, but I haven't had enough counter space in the past few apartments I've lived in. Now I just can't wait until Christmas because I'm betting she'll get me one! And finally, I'll try to make some french macarons in my own kitchen :-)</div>

I would probably have one already if I had more room in my apartment kitchen.  I just don't know where I would keep it.  There are so many recipes that I want to try (including macarons!) but I can't because a hand mixer just doesn't work as well as a stand mixer.

I've made my own chocolate meringues before, yum.

  • I like the Kitchen Aid mixer too..

All these registry questions have me thinking, however...do we really have to register if we don't need anything?  FI and I are in our 30s (well, I'm 30 and he is 35) and we both have enough "stuff"...we could maybe use another set of sheets, a few more towels and maybe a new knife set (and that Kitchen Aid mixer would be awesome) but that is really it.  Should we register for just that?  Not register at all?  I'm not planning on having a wedding shower or anything...friends have asked me if I wanted them to host one but since most of them have families with kids (and/or would have to travel to the wedding shower) I told them I didn't need all the "fuss" as it were.

I really prefer to give an actual gift at a wedding rather than money. I think you should at least register for a few things you might want. You don't have to do a huge registry but it's nice for people like me who don't like to give money.

I think a small registry with the items you mentioned might be nice for those who prefer to give a gift.  But since you are not having a shower, I think it is fine to skip registering.  I am planning to register only for items that I would actually buy for myself and can see myself using.

Do you not have anything you could upgrade?  My H and I lived together for 2 years before getting married, and we also had pretty much everything we needed, but it was mostly crap from when we lived alone.

So, I registered for a nice set of knives, everyday dishes, new towels and sheets, and got some nicer cooking utensils and Le Cruset cookware (just two pieces, but they are awesome!).  So, you could go this route.

I agree that you shouuld have something in case people don't want to give cash.  We also had a lot of people order things online and send them to us before the wedding.

  • Some of my favorite things from our registry:

    Breville "Smart" Oven

Allclad stainless steel measuring cups and spoons.

    Littledeer Tools, Set of 5
Littledeer wooden utensils (I freakin' LOVE these things!).
    Cuisinart Multicooker
Cuisinart Multicooker (use it at least 2x a week).
Cuisinart Elite Die Cast Food Processor, 12-Cup
    Cuisinart Food Processor

Oh, and my H loves his new Shark Vacuum cleaner (he looked at reviews of it vs. the Dyson and they were pretty similar, but the Shark was much more affordable).

  • Thanks SKP! That food processor and multicooker are actually on my list already. My aunt swears by the multicooker and I'm dying for a decent food processor. I think I paid like 20 bucks for mine now, it's so crappy.

  • I really want a food processor and some Corelle. I lust over my parents' dishes. It wouldn't hurt to have a new set of knives either -- I've had our current ones since my freshman year at my first college.

  • SKP - I saw that all-clad measuring cup set on Williams Sonoma.  I am certain FI will think I am crazy for spending so much on measuring cups, but they look so nice!

I hope we register at Williams Sonoma.  I love that store!

  • Hmmm, thanks for the advice all.  Maybe I will stick with a small registery.  We are fortunate enough to have nice stuff and cookware so I think it might be redundant to upgrade (though a new knife set would be nice...I wear out knifes pretty quickly with all the chopping I do).  I'll stick with that and maybe some sheet sets and hopefully that will cover the people who really want to send a "gift" gift.

I love them so much, and they'll last forever!

Williams-Sonoma is expensive, but my H's aunt works there and gets a discount, so I didn't feel tooo bad about registering for that stuff bc I know his family used her discount.  <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-wink.gif" border="0" alt="Wink" title="Wink" />
