Re: Engaged.. students.... Study or wedding plan?

  • RIGHT HERE! lol I should be writing a discussion board right now...that about sums up every night for me lately. I agree, it's so exciting!! and Good luck to you too!
  • Lately it's been studying, because my wedding isn't until June 2012, but the final last minute details will have to be taken care of as I'm getting ready to take finals and get my degree. Yipes!
  • Its extremely hard to focus on my upcoming exam when I could be reading the knot community boards

  • I'm a full-time student, working full-time (2 part-time jobs - luckily I get time to slack off with internet access so I facebook/TK while I'm taking a break from working lol) and planning a wedding (which I do a lot of on the weekends)....life is crazy and I love it! :)

  • Yes!!!  I got engaged last Friday and had an Atatomy and Physiology test Monday.  I tried sooo hard to focus on studying that weekend, but I kept getting distracted by my wedding planner.  My professor still hasn't posted grades, but I know it's not an A!!!
  • This is my first official post on the knot..yay!! I am also a student and planning my wedding.. which is in 4 months and 17 days :-)  I try to balance the studying and planning, but of course I'm more excited about my wedding, so that takes over most of the time. And of course I'm also sooo stressed out from both, especially since we're not exactly flowing in money and trying to put together a great wedding for a modest income, but I am so excited anyways.
Good luck to all you bridal students!!
  • I find it so hard, I just got engaged, and the excitement of planning > school work. I'm a history major with 16 textbooks this semester haha. It's a constant battle :)

During the week I have to force myself to do my homework, but the weekend is fair game for wedding planning.  Even though I'm not getting married until June 2012. I just can't help myself.

  • Somehow, wedding planning just seems waaaaaay more fun than writing a daily journal about my internship and reading case studies!
  • Focusing to study has def been a struggle lately. Planning is soooooooooo much more fun LOL.  Good luck to you all!
  • Purple, I'm with you! I save my weekends for wedding planning (even though I try to get a little bit of schoolwork done, usually on Sunday night, lol).

With our schedules, weekends are the only time my FI have to visit photographers, look at catering menus, and the like. It's our senior year, so things have been pretty crazy school-wise, but I usually sneak onto The Knot a few times during the week when I need a mental break from my work. We'll have a clear four months of solid planning between graduation and our wedding!

Now, time to start that sample cover letter that's due in 14 hours...

  • I try to do my work but it doesn't seem to happen as often as it should. I procrastinate school work but not my planning. That's the last thing that will happen. Its only been a week and I've spent more time planning that anything else. This is my final year of school and all I can think of is the wedding. SO excited!
  • I was bad about doing wedding stuff when I should be doing school stuff up until this semester.  I am student teaching and since I knew it would be busy and my wedding right in the middle I got everything done this summer.  Of course this past weekend has been a little crazy but its all ready and will be over Sunday night!  Hard to believe!

  • Wedding planning is always so much more fun then school work.  I get a lot of heat from people who say I'm doing all my wedding planning wayyyy too early (wedding is 10/8/11) but when your a full time student you def need to prioritize.  I'm doing things really early because then I won't have to rush around during midterms or finals or whatever else is going on to do things.  I'm giving myself PLENTY of time to get things done the way I want them and not have to sacrifice anything in order to get my school work done or vice versa.  I'm trying to do both things with as little stress as possible, and part of doing that is starting early!!!  (plus things are cheaper the earlier you do them, FYI)

    Good luck everyone!  And congrats!!
  • I'm a student who just got engaged June 12th. I've been planning, planning, planning for my wedding next year! Somehow I do find time to study to, which is working out cause I'm getting really good grades. Although I usually find it really hard to focus on school when I'm on here looking at things and figuring everything out for the wedding. It's soo fun though. :)<3

I am planning on 10/8/11  as well!   However I am not yet engaged! (no ring, but soon) aha! We have decided to start planning because its coming in a year..  Seems crazy early to others, but after dating 6 years it like CMON ALREADY (to us).  I am work 2 jobs, volunteering, internship, and FULL TIME STUDENT.  Shoot me now?  I want to be planning, and I have so much due and i'm sitting here on TK! Hopefully I'll make it to my graduation Dec. 12th!  HA.
I think we have the most stress out of everyone.. work + school + wedding on our minds.
  • I am in the same boat! I find myself supposed to be studying but here on theknot or calling people about wedding plans! At the same time - my wedding is in November so  I really need to get the last minute plans done soon!!!
    Love, Erin
  • Me too! I don't have a ring yet, but we've been talking about wedding planning and what not. I can't seem to concentrate on anything except for  planning and dreaming about this amazing wedding lol! This could be a problem...
  • Hello to all the engaged students...Yah for us. I am too a student and it get's a little frustrating at times. My FI and I are getting married March 2012 so I have a little over a year before that time. As of now I've started planning just a little bit and talking to FI here and there about our wedding. I told him that I would cut him some slack until the beginning of the year. So Jan 2011, he has to begin assisting me with planning our wedding. It's football season and basketball is about to start so atleast Football will almost be over. He's a very big sports guys and I am very understanding to him just wanting to relax and not talk about wedding stuff. If I say something about wedding he's reply is have you study ma'am while you are trying to discuss wedding plans. I'm like um, well no not yet. LOL . I love that about him that he keeps me going and is very supportive of me. So planning our wedding is very important but obtaining my degree is even more important. I will be done with school around June 2011. So I just have to get in the habit of making time for school work and wedding planning.
  • Hehe, I'm in pharmacy school and have friends getting married left and right...I'm so excited that I get to plan my own wedding now too!  He proposed a little over 2 months ago and the wedding isn't for another 10 months.  I've gotten most of the important stuff done...so I really have no good or legit excuse for being on here other than wedding fever is way more fun than cramming!!  I guess I'll go back to prepping for the next quiz and exam.  Good luck everyone!

  • Haha when I saw this board I wanted to jump out of my seat! Here I am on the knot when really I should be off studying for three mid terms at the end of the week but I do admit sometimes wedding planning is a great break from the homework. Though sometimes I have to do homework to get a break from wedding planning.. Go figure.

  • Haha, glad to be among so many brides who are trying to plan and study! I'm both graduating and getting married this December and it's extremely hard to focus on either of these major events. However, I find myself searching for ideas online and calling places trying to put everything together much more often than studying right now. I just have to quit school and become a wedding planner, hehehe.

For me it has been trying to do both...I got engaged exactly a week ago today- and almost about this time too!
This past week has been weird for both myself and him...as we've been getting locations in line since we the wedding is in June. We have gotten lucky too! Already have our venues reserved!
I am graduating in December so really having to try and focus on school and not just planning.

Full-time student. 2 part-time jobs. Graduation in May 2011. Wedding in May 2012.

Guess what my first priority is. haha
    Gotta love balancing everything.
  • I'm not yet engaged it's going to happen soon. I've picked out my ring and now I'm just waiting to get it. My future FI and I are planning on getting married in Feb 2012 and I'm graduating in May 2011... It's so much more fun to plan a wedding then study for Statistics and Finance courses. I'm also working Part-time and Volunteering with my Church quite a bit. Luckily for me I'm maintaining an A all but one of my classes. But we're only half way into the semester. I've contemplated quitting school and becoming a planner. I would rather deal with the stresses of planning an event then of studying for exams. I know that getting my degree will be worth it so sucking it up for 7 more months and then I can completely devote myself to wedding planning. I've been planning for a few weeks now and I've got my vision which def. helps to narrow down choices. Future FI isn't much help with planning but thanks to MOH I'm not doing it all alone. Future FI only wants to plan the honeymoon... typical!

  • My fiancee proposed 2 years ago.  I decided to study and graduate.  This is the reason we had a long engagement, so that I could focus on my studies first.  afterall, we need that paycheck first.  Don't get me wrong, I still went and found the venue, and tried tons of dresses!  Now, that I have graduated I am planning planning planning!!!  and it is fun, tiring, and exciting.  At the end, have fun and be smart.

  • My wedding is May 28th, and I go through periods when all I think about is the wedding. Then I stop thinking about it for a week or two to focus on studies, and then can't stop thinking about the wedding for several weeks again! I'm sooooooo excited though!!! Its hard to balance work, school, and wedding planning! I'm so glad to know I'm not the only one doing this!
