RD questions- who are you inviting?

How many of you are inviting OOT guests to your RD? I thought it would be nice to be able to see the people who are traveling before the wedding in order to spend a little extra time with them since we don't get to spend time together often. I was also thinking abuot including a child who is not invited to the wedding but will most likely be traveling with her parents... would this be confusing?

Also, a while ago I thought I had seen a number of people including the RD invite along with the wedding invite, mostly in pocketfold invitations. Do people do this? Also, I am not using pocketfolds, would it be ok to just include a matching postcard for the guests who are invited to the RD?

    I am not, just with BP and immediate family, we already have 37 at the dinner, we just couldn't afford to invite OOT guests. However, we are still considering an after-dinner meet up at a bar, like maybe paying to reserve an area or something.

    FMIL is hosting our "rd" and has invited all OOT family and close friends. In total, it'll be close to 70 people probably.

    Originally I had wanted something low key and small but this is her party so I'm letting her run with it. We aren't doing a rehearsal so it really is just a dinner to welcome people in for the weekend.

    EDIT: Your idea is fine but just remember to keep track of who gets an invite and who does not. Also, depending on what type of rd you have you might the location might need a specific amount of people (I know we do) so you should also think about rsvp information.

    We are inviting all of the OOT guests as well as anyone in FI's family (besides his family members who are in the bridal party)... so basically everyone. lol

    We are inviting oot family friends and relatives to the RD, we are having a separate "welcome" bowling party for our friends who are in from oot later in the evening.  FMIL is sending invites on her own.

    We're just inviting the BP and people involved in the ceremony to the RD.  We're keeping track of the invites by e-vite.  Figured it would be easier and save us some money  :)

    We are just doing people in the wedding party, and immediate family. That already puts us at 40 people.

    We ended up inviting the OOT guests who had arrived a day early.  We ended up with all of our BP, family, and OOT guests to be at 50 people.  It was nice to have everyone there in a casual setting to 1) get excited for the wedding (duh) and 2) have everyone meet and mingle before the wedding

    We had 2 versions of our invites..one that was for people invited to the wedding and RD and one for people just invited for the wedding.  I think you are fine to have a postcard for the RD but like others said, try and keep track of those invited on a separate list.

    I also think it is fine to invite a child not invited to the wedding if she is travelling.  We were going to do this for my cousin who has a newborn (but ended up she couldn't come because she was sick last minute).

    Thanks for the suggestions! I think that's what we'll do, and I'll just make that separate list tonight.

    Sounds like a good idea.

    We are having the BP and family -- my FMIL said we'll have around 80 people.  She sent RD invitations separately, but I included a brunch card in our pocketfold invitations.
