engagement party invitation wording...

My parents are throwing me and FI an engagement party. They are throwing it but my mom has asked be to be involved with things like invitations, center pieces and favors.

Do i have to include my parents names on the actual invitation because they are hosting.

two reasons im asking:

1) MAIN REASON - the invite is online with wording already in it and it looks perfect they way it is - meaning the spacing and sizing:

PLEASE JOIN US FOR AN
ENGAGEMENT PARTY!
In honor of
______ & _______
October 13th 2012 at 8pm
The Renaissance
Address
RSVP By September 21st to Wendy
917-922-9200 Regrets Only

2) I dont want his parents to feel bad because they cant contribute. they are in financial hardship due to various reasons but i know that if they could they would!!

But would it be rude to my own parents?? Even though there might not be space on the invite???

Re: engagement party invitation wording...

  • Listing your parents as hosts if they are hosting wouldn't be a dig at your FI's parents, but if you like the wording without hosts listed that's fine, too. I would make sure that your parents are the ones guests RSVP to in case people do wonder who is hosting.
  • Since your parents are hosting, it's up to them and nobody else to decide how they want the invitations to be worded. If they want to be named as hosts, that's what needs to happen. This has nothing to do with your FI's parents, since this is a party your parents are hosting. If FI's parents want to host a separate party, cool.
  • I'd list your parents.  Our engagement party invite looked almost exactly the same except had the line "Hosted by MyMom & MyDad" before the RSVP line.  Whenever we leave a party/wedding, we always thank the hosts for having us.  Putting it on the invite lets people know who to thank.

  • Is Wendy your mom? I think people will get the hint.

I'd show her the wording and make sure they were okay with it.
