wedding nightmares?

Did/Is anyone else having wedding related dreams that turn into nightmares? I had a horrible one the other night and I just don't know how normal it is to be having these with roughly 10 months to go.

I know it's nothing to do with my FI, I'm not second guessing marrying him at all. The details of the wedding were what made it a nightmare (hideous dress, wrong bridesmaids, wrong venue, lost rings, family members literally fighting at the ceremony, and just straight up weird things going on).

I haven't been overloading myself with wedding details for about 2 months now. We've got the major things booked, so I've been focusing on summer school. I also don't think its because I haven't done enough, because there's not a whole lot to do at this point, I'm up to date on my to-do list.

Thoughts?

Re: wedding nightmares?

  • I wouldnt worry to much about having weird dreams with your wedding soo far away. I have 1 year to the day untill I get married and a few weeks ago I had a dream that I got married at work. I work in a nursing home.......

  • Kris, I thought it was odd too, my circumstance are almost IDENTICAL to yours: about 10 months out and all the major things booked.

My dream was also about the details. Supposed to be an outdoor beatiful garden wedding with strands of globe lights and pikn paper lanterns....in my dream we ended up inside the hideous 70's brown reception hall with a black dance floor stuck around the outside edges of the room instead of the middle of the room......... all because we didnt get all the outside lighting in time.....so my pretty pink wedding endded up looking dark and dingy in my dream and I had my dress on and no make-up or hair done 20 min before ceremony time.

My guess is this is sorta normal.
  • I have just under two years (special circumstances) and virtually nothing planned or put together, not even a solid date! And I already have these dreams! I had one the other night that jolted me awake. I had an awful dress, which was actually a shirt/skirt sort of thing I once saw on an episode of bridzillas, my fiance wasn't even there, and it was at a grocery store. I get them all the time, usually being late or not making a flight or something like that. If there is something in the back of your mind, your brain will fixate on it in your sleep I guess.
  • My wedding is 4 months away and the only wedding nightmare dreams I have had are related to the bridesmaid dresses. I've had 4 or 5 dreams where the dresses are all wrong and the girls show up the day of the wedding in these horrible dresses....all different of course. It's pretty funny though.

  • I had a few wedding nightmares when we were in the heart of the planning, but they all pretty much disappeared a about 4 months before the wedding. Hang in there ladies, it will get better.
  • I got the nightmares a few weeks before the big day.  Mine centered around flowers in particular.  It was ironic, because a few days before the wedding we had a huge flower nightmare.  Sam's Club lost our order, so we didn't have any wedding flowers.  Maybe it was a premonition :)

But, I think they are completely normal haha!  Annoying, but normal.

  • You are definitely not alone. I have nightmares about the wedding all the time. Things like, i get pregnant before the wedding, my FI gets trashed and disappears (mind you, he doesnt even drink), my dress is all wrong, no one shows up to the wedding, I forget essential things at home, etc. I have a little less than 4 months to go. I'm not stressed about the wedding at all. My FI and I have been easy breezy about the whole thing and it is all coming together nicely..so I have no explanation as to why I/we have these dreams. Lets just be thankful they are dreams! Ha!
  • i have to agree! i have those nightmares to mines a reception gon totally wrong! i mean everythings outa wack! but i didnt have them the first time i got married cuz that was a shotgun wedding to begin with! total living nightmare! UGH! anyways now it's all easy and i'm not being forced into it and then i have bad dreams about things going wrong! i totally believe it's norm!
  • You're definitely not alone! I have had sporadic wedding nightmares since we started planning about 6 months ago. The one that stands out in my mind is that my elegant winter wedding was held outdoors in July, I wore a pink Disney Princess dress with matching blonde curls (I'm a brunette), my bridesmaids didn't match, the groom and his guys wore tuxedo t-shirts, and I kept getting bit by mosquetos. Since I have started planning the details they have subsided though.

  • I have sporadic nightmare/dreams about the wedding.  Fortunately for me though, once I wake up and think about them, they're pretty funny.  I had one where my family started a food fight and my 96 year old gram was throwing cupcakes at the officiant.  Not to worry :)

  • Well, it's good to know I'm not alone!! I woke up and told FI about it and he thought I was crazy. Hopefully I won't have them too often!

  • I was fine until I hit the one month mark!! Last week I dreamed that I forgot all the candy buffet supplies at my house.  Also, my DJ was playing awful music and when I went up to him to request certain song be played he refused and said "those songs are all tired!"  LOL  To top it all off, I was running around, not being able to enjoy my day, and I didn't even see my FI the entire time!

I woke up freaking.  My fiance thinks I'm nuts. Smile

  • My wedding is about 4 months away and just two weeks ago I started having weird wedding related dreams. In one, my FI left me at the alter bc he could stand my family. In reality, my FI loves my family and me so I know this won't happen. The second dream, I was meeting old high school class mates who were getting married too and the photographer was taking pictures of all of us.
When I told my FI about the dreams, he just laughed. I did too.
  • I had a wedding nightmare the other night! In the dream I got married at a completely different location than the ceremony/reception location we booked. There was no staff on hand, and everyone in my wedding party was clueless and didn't help, so I had to do everything myself (get dressed, do my hair, usher in late guests!) Right before I was going to walk down the aisle, I turned to my mom and said "next week when we do this again, lets do it at the original location!"

I woke up a bit panicked. I have over a year before the wedding, all the major things are booked, so I don't have to much to worry about at this point, but still! I am glad it was just a dream!

  • I had the first one last week and the next night I had a nightmare about the honeymoon- no fun!

  • I used to get them very often, but in the past month or so they have completely stopped.  The wedding is in 9 days, so let's hope the peaceful dreaming continues!

I think that the more I completed, the less stressed I became (I'm actually really relaxed right now!) and the fewer wedding day fears I had.  Hope it's the same for all of you ladies!
  • I'm getting married in two and half months and I had dream the other night I wore a hideous pink gypsy-looking dress and we got married at the wrong venue. My FI had a dream the other night he was late to the wedding and forgot his suit. I have the mindset that this is completely normal!
  • I've had two wedding nightmares-- one where my friend never got her BM dress and then said she was going to be late cuz she had to go pick it up, and then she missed the ceremony. That one was hillarious a few weeks later when we went to pick up the dresses and hers turned out to be the wrong size and had to be reordered!

The other one I had was just last week, and it freaked me out LOL... I dreamed EVERYTHING went wrong! Dress didn't fit, forgot my shoes at home so I had to walk down the aisle barefoot, hairdresser never showed up so I didn't get my hair styled... so on and so on. I woke up and hd to mentally tell myself it was just a dream! ;)

I'd say we're all pretty normal, just have a bit on our minds :D
  • Worse. I used to have wedding nightmares all the time - always that I woke up late and wasn't prepared. Now I don't sleep, I had to go get sleeping pills today because I lay awake all night unale to turn my brain off!

I experienced the exact same things and around that time.   All the major things were booked - church, reception, even the band all more than a year before the wedding.  Then, the nightmares began.  I was always unprepared the day of.  Missing hair or makeup, missing parents, missing my dress or no food ready at the reception.  I was terrified.  But, I think it's just a sign of knowing that you are working toward a definite deadline now.  Once you start actually tackling the details, the nightmares do go away.  Best Wishes!
  • I am getting married in 23 days..... I can't even SLEEP! I did have nightmares as well, on the other hand I tried on over 100 dresses and bought two before buying the 3rd one which is the one..... LAST WEEK!

I don't know about you; but I am planning a wedding on a $6,000 budget, and for me to get what I want, I have to DIY everything or scour the internet for the best deals.
you got 10 months yes, but my advice is to keep crackin away at it in your free time so you dont freak out doing the last minute things like I am. try to leave 1 whole day every week to not even think or worry about the wedding so it doesnt completely consume your whole life.... after all, you'll have a gorgeous one :)

  • Reoccuring dream that I keep forgetting to bring my cake knife/server and champagne glasses to the reception hall ahead of time so when my fiance and I sit down for dinner our table is completely empty and we aren't even allowed to eat food.  2 months to go!
  • alright this isn't odd at all. i've been having the same dreams though and mine isn't till next year. i have most things done as well maybe were just a smidge bit overly excited? idk but wedding jitters suck!

  • Anything that stresses you out will give you nightmares. Its totally normal.

Did you ever have nightmares in college/high school about big projects or finals? Or at work about something you were doing that was important? Same kind of thing, its just another big thing you're feeling stress over and your mind is reacting.

As long as when you're awake you're feeling confident in your decisions, no worries. :)

  • I did last night :) It was morning of, I was trying to get ready in this huge gross public bathroom, and I was calling my mother and texting my sister in law to PLEEEASE come help me get ready, and neither of them showed up. A little less than two months to go..... :)
  • I have wedding nightmares probably twice a month or so.  The majority of them seem to have the same theme, me not having everything planned, which is funny considering I've had this wedding planned for months now and I don't stress about it at all while I am awake.  I do hate the dreams though as they freak me out and make me wonder if I am missing something for the wedding; FI thinks it's hilarious lol.

  • Yup!! I've had them!! I had them about 2-3 months ago. All of my had to do with it pouring rain on my wedding day...I think it's because my ceremony is outside so I'm freaked out.... My wedding is almost here and I havent had any dream other dreams...
  • Yikes! i have had nightmares too. Mine are about anything that I don't have control over. Like, my florist or my hairstylist, basically if I can't specifically control something it worries me.. So my nightmares are always about vendors not showing up. I am NOT a control freak FYI....

  • yeah we've got a while to go as well and I've had 2! One where I had to convince my FI to show up, that was a bad. And one the other day where absolutely nothing went right but I was pleased with my dream self becase she didn't freak out, she just said 'we're going with the flow and getting married no matter what!' I was proud of her :P But I know the closer it gets the less sleep I'll get so I"m taking the week before off and taking sleeping pills the night before cause I know now that I"m not sleeping a bit that night!
