I realize some people have different types of proposals (i.e. girl proposed to guy, same-sex relationships, no "proposal" but just a conversation, no ring, etc.) so feel free to change questions to fit your situation!

When FI proposed, were you expecting it? Nope, he caught me by surprise.

Who picked out the ring? He did.

What was your favorite part of the proposal? That he didn't do it in front of family and friends. I had told him many months before that I didn't want anyone around and didn't want anyone to know. He listened well.

Who was the first person you called? My parents, then my siblings.

How many people knew about the proposal before you did? No one! He spoke with my father a few weeks before, he didn't tell him when it was going to happen and swore him to secrecy. My father didn't even tell my mom which I was thrilled, course she wasn't but everyone knows she talks too much.

When FI proposed, were you expecting it?

I knew a proposal was coming, we had talked about it and looked at rings. I expected it on my birthday, because of slip ups from my mom and best friend. When my birthday came and went I thought I had misread the signals and it wasn't happening for a while, so it was a complete shock when it happened 3 days later at home.

Who picked out the ring?

FI picked it. When we looked at rings I was pointing out small, simple rings. FI told me later he thought "nope, nope" to every ring I pointed out. He picked a beautiful, detalied ring that couldn't be more perfect for me.

What was your favourite part of the proposal?

It was cheezy and funny and so "us", and it involved my kitty Misty (ring was on her collar) who is my little baby.

Who was the first person you called?

My parents - they already knew, FI asked for their blessing

How many people knew about the proposal before you did?

Pretty much everyone! FI loves to talk and has a really hard time keeping his excitement private. My parents, siblings, and best friends all knew a few weeks before, and his family and friends all knew as well. Nobody was surprised when I called them!

When FI proposed, were you expecting it? Nope, I didn't know

Who picked out the ring? Technically, I did. I went with my best friend 6 months before and picked it out. At that time I had no idea he told her to do it

What was your favourite part of the proposal? Seeing him propose. It was amazing.

Who was the first person you called? My best friends father in law because he paid the bill for our dinner. He called up and then gave them his credit card so when our bill came it just said "This ones on me. Congratulations Sky and Ben! Bill." Lovve him

When FI proposed, were you expecting it? Sort of. We've been together forever, and been talking about it a lot. Plus I saw what I thought was a ring box in the house, but I didn't peek and it could have been something else. I didn't know when it was going to happen though.Who picked out the ring? He did. He knew what I liked though because he made me pick out a necklace a few months earlier for my birthday. The sort of match.What was your favourite part of the proposal? I honestly don't remember most of it because I was so excited!Who was the first person you called? Well we live with my parents, so I just ran downstairs to them and my sister. When FI proposed, were you expecting it?Not at all! I mean I knew we would get engaged someday but I never thought it was going to happen when it did.. i thought another year

Who picked out the ring?Both of us. I had give FI some suggestions of things I liked and then he picked from there!

What was your favourite part of the proposal?All of it. It was just so us.. at home alone in our bed

When FI proposed, were you expecting it? I was expecting it to happen soon. We had been together almost 8 years and had been talking about it lots. I didn't expect him to propose the way he did though.
Who picked out the ring? It's an old ring that FI's mother gave to him. At one point in time it was his grandmother's.
What was your favourite part of the proposal? How laid back it was. Just at home by ourselves. FI had planned something else, but the weather got in the way.
Who was the first person you called? My mom. But she didn't tell my dad so when I talked to her the next day she gave me a hard time for not telling him the night before.
How many people knew about the proposal before you did? FI's family... he had to get the ring from them!

When FI proposed, were you expecting it? Yes, he ruined the surprise. He was texting his brother about everything and guess who he texted instead?

Who picked out the ring? I did- we used my grandmother's diamonds and I wanted to make sure it was well taken care of!

What was your favourite part of the proposal? How nervous FI was. I got down on my knee with him

How many people knew about the proposal before you did? Everybody did. We all were waiting for it!

When FI proposed, were you expecting it? I was expecting it eventually but not when it actually happened or where. It was at his office christmas party. Every year his boss takes his 3 companies to a different hotel within' a 6 hour radius and pays for the whole weekend. That year it ended up being at a ski resort. When he finally asked, he asked me 3 times because I kept saying "your kidding"

Who picked out the ring? He did but he knew what style I liked

What was your favourite part of the proposal? We were alone and not in public and it was a surprise that everyone knew was going to happen except for me.

How many people knew about the proposal before you did? His parents, my parents, all his work colleagues.

He did. He got it for my 24th birthday

After dinner our server came up with a free dessert and announced to the restaraunt that we were now engaged.

Well, I didn't call anyone.

How many people knew about the proposal before you did?
His family knew. I have no idea if my parents knew because FI wouldn't tell me if he talked to them beforehand.

When FI proposed, were you expecting it? This is a bit long, but here goes. FI "proposed" on our second date so not at all, but he didn't really ask me, he just put his cross on my neck, but we both see this as when he really proposed. He still hasn't officially proposed because I won't let him until his divorce is totally final (been in the works for years, but will finally be done March 19!)

Who picked out the ring? We both picked it out and he actually told me he ordered it today!

What was your favourite part of the proposal? The cross he wore is one he's worn for years so it was very special for him to put it on my neck.

Who was the first person you called? I texted my girlfriends the next day to try and figure out what it meant because nothing like that had ever happened to me before.

How many people knew about the proposal before you did? No one, but I expect things will be different with the full-blown one because he's going to need to enlist help from the kids to pull it off.

I knew it would eventually be coming - we had talked about marriage - but I was expecting it to be like..not for a few years.

Who picked out the ring? Ricardo

What was your favourite part of the proposal? The way he did it. He didn't put on a show - it was sweet and sincere in our own room.

Who was the first person you called? I went to work the next day - and went to pick up a bottle of orange juice to pour it for one of my coworkers - and people freaked out. I didn't really call anyone.

How many people knew about the proposal before you did? Just FI.

When FI proposed, were you expecting it? No! I knew it would be happening but I was thinking maybe Valentines day or my birthday. Who picked out the ring? He knew what I wanted but picked the actual ring himself & its perfect. He went to a lot of trouble getting it just how he thought I would want it. What was your favourite part of the proposal? How sweet & romantic he was! Who was the first person you called? My best friend, Kristi. How many people knew about the proposal before you did? The entire fire department pretty much! He did it in front of everyone at the annual awards banquet.

When FI proposed, were you expecting it?

No, because my mom told me he hadn't asked for her blessing yet, so not to expect it on our trip.
He had planned this huge surprise trip and I was like, It's going to happen! But then obviously my mom threw me off. I genuinely wasn't expecting it - we've been on a lot of trips together, so it wasn't out of the ordinary. However, he was being super secretive and I didn't even know we were going to Italy until we were in a cab to the airport! That should have clued me in.
Generally speaking, though, I had a feeling he was going to ask me within the year.
Who picked out the ring?
Fiance. He hadn't asked me what I liked, but he picked exactly what I would have wanted had he asked.

What was your favourite part of the proposal?
Fiance was so nervous and I never see him like that.

Who was the first person you called?
I called my mom as soon as I was back at the hotel room. I wanted to call from my cell while on Lake Como RIGHT afterwards but I was being somewhat logical and decided to not make a long distance phone call from Italy on my cell phone.

How many people knew about the proposal before you did?
My mom, his parents, his sisters, a few of his coworkers and friends, but NONE of my friends.

When FI proposed, were you expecting it? Yes...I was expecting it any day...I knew he was going to purchase the ring after he got his tax return back...& I kept asking him..so when are you gonna do it! (even though I wanted to be surprised!!)...and I actually was home & signed for the 'package'.

Who picked out the ring? FI picked out the ring himself...We did go ring shopping together a few times...(he dreaded ring shopping! haha)

What was your favourite part of the proposal? My favorite part was when he forgot to ask me to marry him...I just wasn't going to accept the ring without him...& he was soo nervous!

Who was the first person you called? My MOH/BFF! She didn't answer...so my mom, I think was the first one I was able to tell!

How many people knew about the proposal before you did? Umm...my dad & step dad only because FI called them the day he was popping the question.

When FI proposed, were you expecting it? We had talked about getting engaged and had looked at rings a month or two before the proposal. On the actual day it happened, he asked me if I wanted to go for a walk. He changed into cargo shorts and I noticed he had something in his pocket, so I kind of thought he was going to propose but I wasn't 100% sure.

Who picked out the ring? We went together to look at rings, and then he emailed me different rings and I told him which was my favorite, so I guess it was a combined effort lol

What was your favourite part of the proposal? The nice things FI said about me

Who was the first person you called? My parents.

How many people knew about the proposal before you did? FI had asked my dad a week before for his blessing, he also told all of his friends he had the ring and asked for advice about proposing. He also showed the ring to his dad and stepmom earlier that week, so I guess a lot of people!!

He did...I gave him some hints tho when my mother was picking out a ring for her 25th anniversary with my father and I was saying how pretty certain rings were so he rememebered the style I liked.

He put the ring around our kitten's collar and it just being me and him

I texted my mother but she already knew...and then I just put it on facebook

When FI proposed, were you expecting it? Yes and no. We had been seriously talking about getting married for a while and he mentioned once or twice he already had the proposal planned out in his head. However, I guess I had thought he was going to wait til we traveled to the US together for the first time. At this point he hadn't met my parents IN PERSON yet and I dunno.. I guess I thought he was going to wait until we were there or after meeting my parents. Lol oh well!

Who picked out the ring? He and a friend/ coworker

What was your favourite part of the proposal? When all our friends and his family came out of their hiding places to congratulate us. I was in shock and it finally became real when they all surrounded us

Who was the first person you called? My dad

How many people knew about the proposal before you did? His family and several of our friends that he called so they could be there

When FI proposed, were you expecting it? not at all. it was mother's day and he had already given me my mother's day present.. (at the time our daughter was 5 months old)

Who picked out the ring? he did

What was your favourite part of the proposal? That it was totally unexpected!

Who was the first person you called? I didn't call anyone right away, we just enjoyed the morning together.

How many people knew about the proposal before you did? My older daugther (10 at the time) and my son (9 at the time) because he asked them for my hand... (I loove that part..) he thought they should have a say and know first since it would change their lives too!

Aw. Poor Mama. My parents met FI - the day after he and I moved in together. Let's just say I gave my poor parents a bit of a shock. ;-) They helped clear out the giant moving truck from Omaha.

When FI proposed, were you expecting it? Nope, not at all. The most surprised I've ever been in my life. We had talked about marriage, but we were going through a really difficult time in our lives with stuff unrelated to our relationship, and a proposal was the last thing on my mind.

Who picked out the ring? He picked out the diamond and had our jeweler set it in a white gold solitaire to propose with. I designed it a few weeks later.

What was your favourite part of the proposal? The fact that we got a picture of it.

Who was the first person you called? My mom and step dad.

How many people knew about the proposal before you did? My FI asked for my step dad's permission on Christmas Day and had told his immediate family he was proposing soon. But he didn't pop the question until April. No one knew when it was coming.

When FI proposed, were you expecting it? I knew it was coming, but I had known it was coming for a while (a few months) so in the moment, I was still a little surprised that it was actually happening!

Who picked out the ring? My ring was my FI's mother's ring, but she started wearing her mother's ring after her mother remarried (a few yrs after her father passed). When my FI told her he was going to propose, she offered him the ring, so I guess in a way, FI's father picked it out (originally).

What was your favourite part of the proposal? I was glad it was private. FI was planning to do it at the party we were at earlier in the night (it was NYE), but he didn't find the right moment, so he did it at home, and I'm glad he did!

Who was the first person you called? My dad the next day, followed by my mom, and my sister.

How many people knew about the proposal before you did? My FI's parents knew b/c he had told them and then they gave him the ring. I think he also told his best friend who is already married for some encouragement lol.

I love these questions.

When FI proposed, were you expecting it? I was sort of expecting it, but in denial. We had been together for so long that I had kind of given up hope on ever getting married lol.

Who picked out the ring? He did and he did a great job! The only thing I don't absolutely love about it is that it's yellow gold and I prefer white gold.

What was your favourite part of the proposal? My favorite part was how nervous he was and how sweet he was. He isn't one to show a lot of emotion. He actually had to crack a joke so that he wouldn't cry.

Who was the first person you called? I think it was my brother. My mom gave me her phone and she was already dialing people.

How many people knew about the proposal before you did? All of FI's siblings and our parents except my mom because she can't keep a secret.

When FI proposed, were you expecting it? I was kind of expecting a proposal soon but not on our vacation. So i was surprised

Who picked out the ring? He did all by himself and did a great job!

What was your favourite part of the proposal? When he threw me off guard by first asking if I would marinade him. I said "what? marinade you??" He stood up and said just kidding, then pulled the box out and asked for real. That had FI written all over it.

Who was the first person you called? My parents

How many people knew about the proposal before you did? Both of our parents, FI's brother and a few friends.
